Recently, a forum user by the name of JohnG inspired me to build Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster Pistol, after I saw the work he did in making his own using a plastic airsoft C96, PVC, and other assorted pieces.

I purchased an airsoft c96 off of eBay, which arrived this week.

After I opened it, I noticed a couple of things. Firstly, there is no safety lever next to the hammer. The elevating sights are one piece of plastic and painted in silver. The other is that the grip plates are the absolute worst color, ever.

The Flash hider will be made from a glue stick, 1/2" PVC coupler, and funnel. The Scope will be made from a piece of PVC electrical conduit. The scope mount will be made from PVC Downspout and a 1/2" PVC T Connector. I will be updating this as the project progresses.

good luck on your build....its nice to see everyone making these props and making them family projects too, im very close to having mine finished...pic posts coming soon

Can't wait to see the finished product.. :) is the gun 1:1?

Unfortunately I don't know. I looked on the box and it didn't say.

Today, I started by taking apart the gun so I could remove the silver plated sights and the grip plates. I sanded them down so the paint would bond better.

I'll need to go to the store to get a can of matte black spray paint, and gloss brown spray paint.

I'm looking forward to seeing your build. I'm planning on making an airsoft blaster myself. I actually ordered the same C96 (M32) a couple of days ago. The pictures show the same chrome plated sights...

I just spray painted the grip covers and the sight. I used Krylon Fusion Matte Black for the sight and Krylon Fusion Gloss Brown for the grip covers.

Now, for some inexplicable reason, one cover is slightly darker than the other. Don't know what's going on there. I sanded it back down and repainted it, but it's still darker than the other. Despite this, I'm continuing forward with the build.

Awesome! Im using the same gun for my build right now. strange about the grips, hope you figure it out. cant decide if I want to try and make wood ones yet or not. Have fun and good luck!

Maybe a primer first would keep the color consistent?

I was using Krylon Fusion spray paint, which says on the label that priming isn't needed.

Update: Managed to get the gun back together again.

I have to get a few more parts before the build can begin.

You may consider cracking it back open and installing the bolts for the scope mount cross bar from the inside out. Way more secure.

Nice idea, only problem with that is one of the holes would be in the mag well and with the bolt in there I wouldn't be able to get the short magazine back in. I'll keep that idea in mind though.

By any chance have you checked to see your exact clearance against available bolt head heights??? I've know hardware stores to have some good sized bolts with rather flat heads. In addition there "may" be nylon bolts that you could sand down to give you your clearance and epoxy them in for strength.

No I haven't. I should check that.

you can find an elevator bolt or comparable to fit in there. You may need to sand down a ridge inside the magazine chamber to accommodate the bolt head, but it should work.

Sorry, for the long delay. Some other things came up and this got shoved to the way far back burner.

Update: I cut out the cross bar and the knobs. I laid them on the gun to get them in the right spot.

You could try water bottle caps for the round parts they have knurling like the real prop.

I thought about that, but decided not to for a couple of reasons.

1. I'd need to fill them with something in order to put screws in. Doing it this way, I can drill and counter-sink the holes for the screws.

2. This blaster is not going to be an exact replica, I'm gonna be leaving somethings out, like the t-track piece that goes on top of the bull barrel.
