I think his etsy is up because he's taken all the marvel stuff down. he's still got dc stuff up there, but unless their lawyer contacts him, he'll keep going that way.

I only mention it because of the spin being put on it by Dave and LostSkywalker. Both have said it went "bye-bye" when it hasn't.

To be fair a lot of people on here make a living selling unlicensed items such as claws, and have done for a long time. Yes snikt has been taken down for doing it, but he's far from the only one.

I think most people on here don't really have much of as problem with him doing that, more the fact he's been recasting others work.

Yes but what got him in trouble by 'official' people was him taking official props like a $10 pair of claws and recasting them for $120, all while openly admitting it, advertising it, and stating he doesn't care who he's hurting.

Him recasting other members isn't the reason for his C&D.

I believe it's more than that. David Winant / Jim Logan takes the hard work of other artists, makes a mold of it, and makes a profit off the resulting props. This is not the same thing as creating claws or a helmet on your own (even if the design is based on certain characters). If he was just altering the rubies claws and selling them (as he claims), he'd still be disliked because he's essentially ripping people off (charging $120 for a paint and handle job), but it wouldn't be as horrible as stealing another person's efforts.

Furthermore, he often takes money from customers and does not deliver the product. He's a thief, plain and simple. This is nothing like a respectable seller who makes props and goes out of his way to insure customers are happy and get what they pay for.

Exactly:
Recast an item made by an artist on the RPF.... Get banned and a bad reputation.
Recast an "official item" made and sold by the actual company..... You get a C&D.

There are recasters that are against Dave. There are also recasters that support Dave. There are recasters who have never heard of Dave. We get it. Doesn't change who Dave is or his previous business practices. Doesn't make ripping off RMX's work without as much as an apology when he was called out OK either, no matter who supports him.

I keep getting a feeling that "supporters" of Snikt keep trying to ignite a discussion about banned members to try and get mods to close this down.
Let's just ignore the attempt to steer in that direction and keep things on track.

I believe that his c & d was because someone pointed him out to marvel or rubies because that person was upset that there hard work was being re cast.

Though there are Other people masking a living on face book and the like by selling props from films they don't have the licence too. And I wonder if they will get c & D's as snikt shop taking other people down?

The only real case of a studio going all the way is with Gotham garage.

It is possible they may crack down more often now, and if the people making a living selling and get shut down, they really can't cry about it. It was a risk they took in the beginning. They just need to be thankful if they just get shut down and a C&D. They need to be thankful they aren't served with court papers right away. Time to pack up and just move on to another form of work.

He really is cleaning house, isn't he? Geez. He sure is trying to make some quick cash. I don't think he realizes that C&D doesn't mean sell off the rest of your stock. It means SHUT IT THE **** DOWN.

Well, i did not report him to Marvel.
And, i do not make my living on selling this stuff. (apologizes to the peeps who does)
I have zero clout, pull or any semblance of influence regarding to Marvel.
But i'll bet, Disguise, Rubies, the companies who paid for licensing agreement did.
I'm sure they did not take too kindly on SniktShop recasting and selling (many times over the retail price) their work.

Thing is if they do start taking down small companies who make unlicenced props then where does it stop? That's just a small part of it, a quick search on eBay will bring up thousands of unlicenced items like posters, magnets, t shirts, mugs & wall art to name a few. I wonder what it is that makes the companies sit up and take notice, if its the simple fact of 'that's our character' or 'you're screwing people over using our character'?

I suspect it is the issue of using their property. It is the "screwing people over" that brings a lot if attention to the use of their character.

That's personally what I thought because a heck of alot of people are doing the business thing and doing it well, which I my eyes bring free advertising to the brands, its pretty awesome seeing a screen accurate batman at a comic con. But then its a whole other ball game when someone is screwing people out of money and basically just changing a few bits on a item and calling it his own.

The good ones are also giving something to the fans in a sense, a prop that they can't buy officially.

They won't, they'd have to go against the WHOLE internet to do that...It's far too big.

It's stops where ever they want it to stop.

They have the full backing of the law, so they decide.

The way most people see it, stay under the radar, aka do it 'for the community' and not as a quick cash scheme.

You'll see most studio's aren't bothered by small runs, but if you have a bad rep (or you simply try to look big and advertise everywhere, have a e-store, etc) then they will send you a C&D.

If you are making a living out of it... well you are in the same situation as the guy selling pot on the street. It's illegal, if the law catches up, you can't really cry about it...

This hobby lives thanks to the studio's. They don't owe you anything.

So,
I was just notified that SniktShop has contacted the lawyer at Marvel and pointed them at some peeps.
It seems that the first item targeted is any online store presence "Etsy, Storenvy..."
I believe that the marvel lawyers contacted the owner of the the store site and asked that the individual store is taken off.
This could be why Snktshop is still making and selling stuff at "Heroes for Hire" FB pages.
It could be that its not a true C&D.

On a very interesting coincidence,
I was recently contacted by a RPF member about the stuff i make. And then, they asked if i had a store!?
Not a typical question to ask.
Now, if this sound familiar to you, please pm me and we can compare notes.
