sAW - Billy The Puppet - Fully Remote Control

A little project I'm working on. I thought others might enjoy seeing Billy's progress. I plan to make a few of these. Each will be unique, as the antique tricycles are very hard to find, and each is a little different.
Billy is powered by 12v batteries and a 12v motor (no cheap servos to propel him) When complete, his mouth will move in sync with the 2 different types of audio signals he will have, as well as the sAW theme music via. internal speakers. His head will also turn side to side. He is controlled by a JR 8 channel helicopter radio.

Another week or so, and he will be complete.

Hope everyone enjoys watching 1/2 as much as I enjoy the building process.

This looks like a great project. I've had the hardest time finding the right tricycle. Where did you get yours? I've had my Billy just sitting in a chair for about 2 months now tricycle-less

The body turned out very well & the tricycle is perfect. :thumbsup

Going the extra mile to make Billy talk is a project in itself.

Awesome work!

Yes, the tricycles are VERY hard to find. So far I have acquired 10 of them from all over the country. If you find one, expect to pay $200-300 for one. They are not cheap by any means.
Making him talk really won't be that tough, all I really have to do is make a separate mold for his mouth piece, and add a servo.

I'm not a fan of SAW but you've done some great work there - impressive.

Those red Dorothy shoes he's wearing are freaky.

Thanks guys. I really like showing off my work. Most people don't realize the time that goes into a project like this. So far, I'm figuring there is about 60 hours into him. The real trick, was designing his arms and legs to mechanically work correctly with the movement of the tricycle. You really don't realize all the movement a human body has to do to ride a bike till you do something like this. There was a little trial and error as he was built. But now his movement is flawless. I consider that having been the hard part. Now I've moved onto powering the tricycle. Currently, the tricycle is ripped apart in my shop, as I install the motor, and servos.
Thanks again.

Thats awesome Im building a Adult size tricycle, Like to see this in action keep up the good work:)

i have one tricycle like this i was bough 3 years ago to make this project too , but it never happen ... :s and i'm stock with this tricycle because for shipping this i have to dissemble all to fit in a box and i'm living in canada , and the shipping cost was extremely expensive .. :(

great job on Billy btw !

Yeah, getting these tricycle here has been VERY expensive. Like I said, I plan on building a very small limited run of these guys. The 1st and most important part was getting the correct puppet head, and tricycles. The 2 things I planned on not building myself. Having a source for the screen correct heads, and having found 10 tricycles so far, I'm looking at making a 1st batch of 5-10 fully radio controlled Billy tricycles.

Sorry guys, but I can't really tell or show some of the details of his build right now. I'd love to tell you, but then I'd have to kill you ;)

Right now, I'm installing the rear motor/axle drive system. I am using mostly off the shelf motors, pulleys, belts, and other parts. If anyone should ever have to work on him in the future, they will all be easy to get parts.

This IS my dream. I can't wait to see how you'll get the trike to move. Been stuck on that since day one. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the saw head from?
