Saving Private Ryan Props & Wardrobe

I will eventually have a bunch of hero items from OBA The Last Samurai and Windtalkers for sale, when I get enough posts to post in the junkyard.

This just came in today. German Stunt Helmet from Episode 5 of Band of Brothers has the stunt man's name inside too.

But Im not a big BOB collector so it may go for the right price or the right trade!

Right after 'SPR' came out I remember gun companies in Shotgun News selling the prop M-1 Garands from the film for $50 a piece and they came with period slings on them. They had hundreds of them for sale.
I bought one and it was made of some type of foam rubber and painted to look real.
From a few feet away it did look very real except the barrel was severely warped. It looked like you could shoot around corners with it!
Anyway, I accidentally left it in my old apartment in Florida when I moved. Lost and gone forever.

im surprised no one form Propstore has commented on this thread yet regarding the Tom Hanks costume they are selling. Il let tim know and give him a chance to respond.

I have NEVER in 14 years ever once seen a complete main cast costume from SPR, it just doesn't happen. The way the costumes were thrown in boxes and quickly sold off means that a complete costume isn't possible.

Lee, thanks for making us aware of this thread. I rarely get a chance to get on here over a weekend.

We will investigate further the claims about the Miller outfit and Brandon will respond later.

Chris, perhaps you can drop Brandon a line to explain how you might know with such certainty that these components are not for Miller? You can reach him at brandon@propstore.com We take these claims very seriously of course and would be interested to learn your background with this material. Did you work on the production yourself?

I should initially point out however, that there are a number of complete main character sets in collections out there. We purchased a quantity of fully labelled complete costumes directly from the Paramount archives approximately 10 years ago. We also have bought complete and fully labelled costumes directly from the costumiers here in England. These were purchased directly from the costume company, not an assistant.

Hi Chris,

We do state in the description of the Tom Hanks costume that the trousers are from the production but were not used in the film. The jacket with this costume can be screen matched to the film, as shown on our website.

Please contact me directly with any other information you have - brandon@propstore.com

Best regards,
Brandon

Hello Brandon, I see you have edited the listing to say that the trousers were not used in by Tom Hanks. The Jacket is the real deal like I said before no complaints here. Are there some pieces worn by hanks Yes, is it a complete costume worn by Hanks No.
Tom Hanks did not have a Vietnam era shovel in a WWII film and he also did not have rough out boots. The liner also was not painted for the production it is a post film paint job.

How did I come across this info? Simple I have friends who have worked on the production and I have spoken with stunt men, assistants, and even the dealers who sold off the original stuff in 1997. If you take the time to compare originals and screen caps to your stuff you will quickly realize what is real or not. I have seen "Complete" costumes sold by Academy Costumes of London and they are no different than the "Miller Costume"- a real jacket and helmet and everything else was "made-up"

Why do I have an interest? I am a private collector who started way back that is sick and tired of people trying to scam people out of their money for fake SPR props.

That being said I have nothing against you or the Propstore of London, you all are great people to deal with and are doing the prop collecting community a huge favor by bringing this stuff to the market. Just do a little research before buying SPR stuff to sell on your site.

If you have any questions about authenticating REAL SPR items you can contact me at Chris@Foxholeprops.com
I would love the opportunity to work with the Propstore of London to have this straightened out.

I was involved in WWII re-enacting back when the movie came out. A vast majority of the uniforms for SPR were sold off to the re-enactment uniform suppliers which in turn were sold off to us re-enactors at events for a decent price.

You could get a jump uniform of jacket and pants pretty cheap. They also sold off the boots and field gear.

I kick myself for not buying a bunch of it, but compared to my uniform the movie uniforms were pretty cheap. Many were supplied by S.M. Wholesale which was not one of the better suppliers then.

I usually try and get something from my favorite movies and did pick up this pathfinder jacket from SPR back then. It is stamped :thumbsup

I would love to see a photo of the stamp if it is stamped. I am curious which one it is as many of the collectors know the M42s were not all stamped. There are 3 different US SPR stamps and I was wondering which one was on this peice.
Thanks,
Chris

I was just shown photographic proof that the Propstore of London did indeed have 'complete' SPR outfits long ago. They do exist! So I sincerely apologize to the Propstore about my previous statement.
But that does not change the fact that the ones the Propstore has NOW are not 100% genuine.

Sweet Thanks! That is the correct stamp (of the 3) for all Jump Uniforms. My M42 trousers have the same stamp. Where did they put it? It doesnt look like its in the collar like most I have seen on M42s.

Its on the inside just below the collar.

hello,

I would just a few words about your costume tread Tom Hanks on SPR was sold in several pieces, I have one of the three helmets visible in the film, and the complete belt and holster, the "dagger" US M3 was lost during the filming, there were a total of seven M-41 jackets and pants HBT 7, 5 pairs of shoes, I also have other items that are taken by Tom Hanks, one of whose shirts officer.

Bests

Caplan, I'd love to see pics!
Now I heard there was up to 11-15 outfits for Tom Hanks. And all his gear was original WW2. I know the jacket I had was. 7 Seems a little low for a hero wardrobe item.

hello,
I already posted pictures on another thread, when held to 7, I'm waiting for some parts and not the full essemble, belt, holster, container and other small items are authentic WW2 after
HBT pants, all jackets are reproductions and not originals, and for helmets, same for the shoes, shirts ...., this is perfectly recognizable in the film
