I'm not holding my breath George. I'm just lucky my electronics guy is being very helpful and generous.

I moved the optical unit below the eyes and angled them up. BINGO! Much more comfortable to look at, feels more natural, solves my clearance issue and clears the way for the AV in jack.

Using stiff card and hot glue to prototype a removable bracket that will secure both eye lights plus the optical unit.

Bracket fabricated. All I have to do is weld two drilled and tapped tabs inside the faceplate and the whole lot will be a one-piece screw in, screw out.

Tabs folded, drilled and tapped, ready for a quick tack weld to the inside of the faceplate. The screws are leftovers from an old computer I pulled apart years ago. They've proven very handy.

Long time lurker. I love your work it's absolutely beautiful!! I do have one suggestion/thought before you wield on the FPV mount. If the FPV googles are below the light up eyes, would that make him look like he is naturally looking up? Because your head would always want to stay naturally horizontal. Just a thought, I might try it above the lights so that he is looking down more, for that intimidating look. Your work is inspiring and I cant wait to start mine, although it won't be out of steal haha Keep it up!!

Its been a while since i visited this thread but holy crap it doesnt start getting better! I cant wait to see the final result of this build but at the same time i kinda dont want it to end lol :p

i know you said overseas but i was wondering if you could give more infro on where you got the video glasses and camera?

We have to play with the padding in the helmet to get the angle of the dangle right. With the units above the eye holes however, I found I had to keep my eyes wide open and looking up, which gets uncomfortable. With the unit just below, my eyes naturally fall into a comfortable level where I am looking slightly down into them. Seems to work.

The thing to determine now is where does the camera go, where it's wide angle is not inhibited by part of the helmet, and I can face it in such a way that it accurately represents my forward view.

For the ABC interview on my Iron Man suit on Monday just gone, go to this page and advance the time slider to 2:41:10

A very generous person and a true giver who wishes to remain anonymous has kindly donated the rust-proofing.

New geared motor for pulling the cables on the faceplate.

Prototyping to get the cable travel distance right.

Installing a circulation fan in the chin to keep the optical units from fogging and give me a bit of air in the helmet.

This stuff is AMAZING!

First I donned apron, rubber gloves and face shield, then cleaned with marine clean, hosed off, dried, brushed and soaked on the metal prep and watched the rust vanish right before my eyes. Hosed off and dried again, then applied the black rust protection.

Even though I brushed on a very thin coat, it seems to self-level and pull into a shiny smooth coat.

Second coat tomorrow and that will do it.

Hello, great build, I was wondering what paint you were going to use on the outside of the suit. I am a painter myself, and would like to make a recommendation on paint. If you can get your hands on a sherwin williams product called Sher-Kem high gloss metal paint. Made specifically for metals it has a real nice high gloss shine. Dries super hard and lasts a long time. It is a Xylene based paint , spray only. Really good stuff, just thought id ad d my insight. Incase you werent set on a paint yet.

Oops, forgot to ask also, how is the smell on the inside of your mask?

Thanks for the recommend. I'll look into it.

Zero smell on the inside. POR-15 sets like a ceramic very fast and has no smell at all.

So I decided to throw in a bit of a Sandbagger feature. In order for the circulation fan to pull fresh air in and give my handsome dial a bit of a light breeze, I need an intake.

A good friend surrendered an old sub-woofer speaker cover that did the trick.

I thought I may as well try it in the eyes as well. Might look cool with the lights behind it.
