Sandbagger's Iron-Man builds - Now in STEEL

They are certainly difficult. I've done about eight different versions of the gloves out of foam, cardboard and steel. Still no solution yet but I am sure I will figure it out when I get to it.

You could try my aluminium/foam hybrid technique: http://www.therpf.com/f78/iron-man-...d-aluminum-foam-hybrid-build-tutorial-228066/

The files and assembly technique were close to this and worked out pretty well: http://www.therpf.com/f78/quick-n-easy-iron-man-gloves-tutorial-185607/?highlight=easy+gloves

They would look great with the rest of your suit but not as complicated to make as full steel versions. I'm eager to see what you come up with!

Both of those builds, while good for their own reasons, don't suit the finish I am going for.

Outstanding work, my friend. I've been watching your work progress over the past year and you've done some impressive work. As for the status of my steel suit, my mark7 helmet will continue to gather dust because I've decided to build the new suit in age of ultron; hopefully by Halloween. So keep an eye out for new pics after I get started on mine and Congratulations on your accomplishment.

SB, are you ok there? i watched news about Australia, there tornado and horrible weather. are you family not suffered?

What did you use to get such a nice polish on that helmet?

Just a scotch wheel on the bench grinder.

Thanks mate. I'm sorry to hear you are not finishing the first one. I know it's hard to stay focused on one suit when there are so many more out there with appealing lines and design. I hope your next suit goes all the way.

Cheers,

SB

Thanks very much for your concern mate. Yes all good here. It was some foul weather this last week with a super-cell (basically thunderstorms on steroids) or two that inundated us with flood-water and high winds in certain regions of the state. We just skipped summer and autumn and went straight to winter.

Nice to hear, that its ok.:thumbsup

I've been so strapped for time lately. This non-daylight savings is pissing me off. Stuff-all done on the suit in a while.

Today I made a start (only had 20 minutes). Reinforced the knee pivots with some heavy pipe welded in, some M10 cuphead bolts and washers in between the layers to smooth out the pivot. They move silently now.

Hopefully tomorrow I can weld a couple of struts into each side of the boots, to push the leg up high and enable the weight of the leg to rest on the ground, rather than hang on the suit.

Absolutely stunning work as always

Thanks man. :D

Update:

Leg on the right now supported on a steel strut either side of the boot and pivoting at the ankle. The weight of the entire leg now sits on the ground instead of hanging off the suits torso. The gap between the top of the leg and the cod-piece is now a lot smaller and realistic looking.

Won't be scratching up the hospital floors now! Glueing on rubber soles.
