Saint Seiya - Shiryu Dragon - Gym Mats

Probably most of you don't know that I sing in a cartoon-cover band.
While doing that, I usually use scene costumes and few months ago, I decided to go with a nice costume. Something I've always wanted to do:

ONE OF THE SAINT SEIYA CHARACTERS.

It really didn't matter which one, so I went to to choose the one that had the best similarities. I went on to choose Shiryu, the Dragon. Long black hair, black undersuit and a green costume:

And so I decided to give the gym mats a shot.
I had a bandai myth cloth of the V3 armor of the character and I proceeded to make the paper parts as usual.

I don't have many pictures of the WIP, but some of them explain pretty much how I did this:

pictures of the wip will come later on ;)

Those are totally awesome!!! It´s about time that someone makes a good tutorial on how to work on those things, so a WIP post is definitely welcome!

nice! Actually it took me 10 days to make that suit, start to finish and it was intended to be just a scene costume.

I think I'm gonna try other costumes but with forex.
What kind of leather are we talking about? faux?
Also, the thing with leather is that where the armor has "spherical" like surfaces, it will create bubble you'll have to eliminate by cutting, unless it's an elastic fabric.

SS armors are not that flat, even if people usually do it so.
Also, did you then paint the leather over?

the leather that i used is some kinda leather that usually used to covered sofa or the car seats, kinda like this.

hey, i got a trick how to wrapping a spherical thing with leather, like this shoulder pad( makes with a plastic ball)

first off all, burn the leather little by little to make it easy to bend, after that, put the leather to the ball, start with the center part of the leather, put the ball in to your knee, make sure you`ve already put the glue both side of the ball and leather, and patiently pull the edge of the leather carefully

to get a ralistic body looks, simply used a body manequin, trust me, it really works, :)
hopes this will help you out

love the purple you used, what paint did you use on the leather? :D
And I've gotta try this thing of warming the leather up.

I have so much faux leather here :D

Ok guys, sorry to bring this up, but I have an announcement to make and it is somewhat related to this topic too:

I've finally got my personal prop shop up and working!
I dediced to make it a personal project, opening a videoblog where you can follow me while I'm making "A Journey Into PropMaking".

This is the website where you can follow my adventure:

Alpha Studios - A Journey Into Propmaking

Every week I'm going to post a new video to document usage of materials, techniques or progress of personal projects!

Also, keep in mind that the 3-pieces Iron Man helmet is the first thing I'm going to finish!
I hope you'll enjoy this video blog guys! And who knows? Maybe I'll be able to teach something while sharing what I discover through experience!

Thanks in advance for your support!
Fulvio!
