Sabine helmet WIP going for 99% accuracy

building a sabine for my wife and definitely been hunting down helmets, this is shaping up to be one of the best looking ones yet, definitely interested once casting comes around.

For sure! Feel free to send me a link to your thread.

I will be making one in a few weeks. Just want the weather a little warmer l.

I had some time to get more sanding and smoothing done. Still working on the range finder. I want this to look like it does on the show but I think other mods will be needed to make it work in real life. Here are some pics of the smoother version!

still some more smoothing but it is looking great!

Good Morning BSD :)

Fellow 3D Printer here your mesh looks great i'll probably start on my own in the coming months for my wife, i have a question for you on finishing are you using an Epoxy coat to smooth your striations or is this ABS with an acetone bath ? or another process, always looking out for new post processing techniques, I only ask as your helmet looks immaculate :) perhaps you could also share your printing process too ? i.e what resolution your getting best results at/supports & type of printer etc was it 1 piece or glued (of course not the mesh)

My process for models that need that finish has been

Epoxy (XTC-3D)
Sand
P-38 (bondo)
Sand
High Fill Primer
Sand
Knifing putty (if required for small imperfections)
Sand
Prime
Paint

anyway subscribed for now looks great buddy !

Thanks, hopefully starting a thread soon, just started compiling parts and figuring out an idea to do the armor. Blasters currently being worked on and been hunting for gloves and boots in stores the past couple of weekends.

I print in parts. I found XTC to suck. I just use glazing spot putty and self etching primer. I use both PLA and ABS so I do not use the acid bath. Those are the only 2 things i use.,

great to know !

i find the XTC only good on some surfaces but the mix has to be JUST right or it sucks probably will just continue to use bondo &Knifing putty (same as glazing)

thanks for the insight though! were soon to acquire some sabine body parts and we were going to print the head

anyway best of luck i'll be watching closely ^^

I also wanted to share that I will be making the armor as well. I will be making this as well. I had to make a lot of adjustments for my wife is not an A cup like Sabine is and Sabine's armor also moves with her so I think I found a good middle point. What do you think?

Looks good, with the armor being so small and varying especially on the chest area, couldn't imagine many people producing sabine armor that would be a 1 size fits all but looks like that may be a very good in between.

The helmet is looking fantastic. When do you think you will be making a mold and making copies? I don't want to push your process, but my 11 year old daughter is giving me the full court press about getting her one of those helmets and finishing her Mando armor. Thanks.

Sorry I had a busy few weeks. I am molding it this weekend! Also here are the latest pics of the helmet and the armor! The armor was modeled right off the sabine model then modified to fit a real female and also a little more well endowed female than Sabine!

Totally awesome work there. looks so much better than my attempt.

Just one thing though....im not 100% sure im right but thought I would say (ive looked at so many pics online of this helmet while making my little girls one)........... the little ridge that goes round the back of the helmet just under where the dome starts. where it joins with the "ears" (sorry I don't know exact name).....I think its supposed to be flat with the helmet. im not sure ive explained very well. I hope you can see what im getting at.

Just thought I would mention just incase you hadn't noticed......I hope im not wrong. gonna try and find a pic to share.

damn, couldn't get the link to work.

I can not say for sure what part you are talking about. I got the helmet about as close as I could get it. Here are some pics to show it in other angles. This was after I modded it to fit a real human head as well.

O ok I see what you are talking about. 14857270102_f20111856b_o.png I have it very close to the same location. I took perfect side screenshots to make sure I got that part right. Here is a good pic that shows that the area we are talking about does stick out and is just slightly behind the ear.
