SA Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes jacket: suggestions for materials?

I'm working with my commissioner on the SA Winter Soldier jacket and we're attempting to determine what material(s) we're best off using for this....does anyone have any suggestions? I know leather is what people typically go for; but, by my understanding (and I have it from a solid source as well), the actual movie jacket was not in fact leather....? It's just that we're not sure exactly what we should use to get the look while of course being fully SA, as per these attached pics....faux, cotton, what? Any and all help is very sincerely appreciated!!

Check the Winter Soldier Costume build from 2013 and there is a lengthy discussion of the jacket (the thread jumps around a bit) but most folks who sewed their own did it in Pleather. Some went all out SA and did leather. They complained their coats were hot.
