Rubies Biker Scout Helmet (yeah, I know...)

Honestly, don't waste your time with a rubies. They're made of cheap vinyl. It's actually much less work to save up for a kit, whether it's one of LW's kits or Kropserkel.

Yeah, the one in the auction looked even more out of shape that the one in that pic Maelstrom. The Lone Wolf kit looks awesome, thanks for the link Atlanthia, but like I said I can't swing it right now. Thanks to you guys though, when I'm back on my feet and working again, I know where to get a good one.

Oh, UK Scout, I had a chance to get one of the DP Scout helmets when I was in college and bought my other ones (I mean, what was I gonna do, waste my money on books?) but I got the Vader, Stormtrooper and TIE buckets, intending to go back for the Scout, Royal Guard and Fett buckets, but never got the chance.

this is my rubies, theres a great tutorial on Biker Scout.net on how to do this step by step to achieve the whole hog look. And theres also one on how to do just enough mods to get clearance.

softness is a problem. The helmet rim is reinforced with wire and the shape is maintained with fibreglass coating on the inside.

as always in this game its a fine balance between time, money and accuracy.
as already said; if you can get a Rubies cheap enough - it might make it worth your while. To me, up to $50 is probably still worth it.

in retrospect, the amt of time I had to put into mine to make it looking like above, I'd probably been better spending a bit more and getting one of the kits already mentioned. But if you short on cash, and got the time, its very much a viable option. I got 501st clearance with mine.

I also have owned a KS, Altmanns and a LW in my time. But I do get sentimental of my RUbies cos of the amt of time and effort I put into mine.

Heatshock that's an awesome looking helmet! I did think about going the route of strengthening the helmet with wire, but I wasn't sure if it would work. Obviously it does the trick quite admirably!

I'm not really concerned with being 501st approved just yet, though eventually I'd like to join the local garrison. Right now though I can't stand for long periods of time or walk long distances, not to mention that about the only outfit I could get into right now would be a Gamorrean! There's a thought, anyone done that one?

if you have the time and patience - a rubies can be made to look decent. The sucking in of the cheeks on the snout was the toughest for me. That vinyl is not easy to work with at times.
