So i'm trying to make copies of the trench work for my star destroyer and i'm using alumalite rtv, i believe i totally botched it and was wondering if there are better products. if anybody's got help/tips would be appreciated.

What went wrong? Need a description before we can offer tips.

I use Rhone-Poulenc silicones, never had a problem with them. I have also had mostly good results with GE and Dow products, but the Rhone-Poulenc moulds seem to last longer.

Well i totally jacked up the mix and made a total mess last night. I think it might have worked though cause i checked it this morning and it was pretty solid

With the stuff i used from micromark if you're just a tiny bit off in the amounts it'll just take longer to set. Sadly my first attempt never dried and i never did figure otu why as i swear i had the amounts right. I suggest if you can get a 10:1 package where its 1 part activator to 10 parts mold material as it lasts a lot longer.

When using a 10:1 or 20:1 type silicone rtv, I tend to error on the side of too much catalyst. My understanding is that a little too much catalyst won't hurt it, but not enough could possibly keep it from curing thoroughly.

Or you could always go with a 1:1 (by volume) type rtv. They are very easy to use, but the mold is not as durable.

Smooth-On is a very popular source for rtv. My favorite was a sample I got years ago for free from GE Silicone. Unfortunately it is not available any more.
