Doing all this here at 70 is really good.
My Dad will now be turning 78 this September. Just today he was diagnosed with dementia. Already starting to see his memory failing, sad to know it will only get worst.
Cherish the best memories while you can.

Agreed!

Right now my biggest frustration/concern is that I have a Closet of Doom filled with Grail kits, a lot are long out of production and realistically I will not live long enough to build them all. I hope things will pick up some, but my new cataract implants have a fixed focus ending at arms length so any close up detail work requires magnification assistance right now.

Thank you Richard so very much, all these images will be a great help, all I have to do now is increase the scale and see if I can replicate some of the vast detail on the craft. Hello Jedi Michael sorry to hear about your dad, and I will hopefully have the time and good fortune to get this build done.
I do have odd bouts when my fingers lock up ( using a model knife for over 50 years ) has taken its toll on the fingers. The one thing I have seen from the images is that the original film model must have been a stunner packed with so much small detail , detail I now have to increase in size try and try to do your small model and the film model justice. I will get out my drawing pad and pencil in the morning and get to work, once I have established a basic length of about 8 feet, I can start to place the sections of detail in and get a feel of how the model is going to meld into a 3 dimensional shape.

once again thank you for all your help and kind thoughts
my very best regards Barrie, ( the old guy with the best support system in the world )

Well here is a rough and I mean rough drawing to give me the overall full size of the scratch build, i102 inches just over 8 feet long and nearly 2 feet wide, I have a lot of detail work to do, thank you once again Richard for all your help and once the model is under way I will post lots of images
every one keep safe and well
best regards Barrie ( the old guy with loads of support) I have put a tank chassis 1/35th scale to give the drawing some scale.PICA0006.jpgPICA0000.jpgPICA0002.jpg

Was wondering, since the round hover type parts that light up change position depending if the ship is only hovering in place, or actually in flight....while I see you have the circles drawn in, wondering which position that ends up being.
Also guessing you plan to light them up with some nice bright LEDs, hoping the museum would have a way to plug it in.

Hello Jedi Michael , I know what you mean about the light units, but since I started making models for the museum 3 years ago they have never requested any lighting on any of the models. This helps with ease of build and keeps the cost down as the museum is a charity. The curator may fit
some lighting at a later date as he has some clever people working and helping him with the exhibits. I will just crate the main model and give it a base coat of Halfords primer ready for his paint guys to go to work. The main thing I have to worry about is making the model strong and build in supports so the model can be hung from the ceiling, also most of the models are quite big so they are built in sections for transportation.
I am hoping to start work next week on this craft and with a bit of luck it should be completed in a couple of months, I will post images of the build
once I am under way.
keep safe and well
best regards Barrie ( the old guy with a lot of work to do )

Having other guys to come and paint it. Wasn't even thinking of that.
So if no lights are ever added in, one thing you can recommend after its painted, is reflective tape around those round hover part areas. I have no idea what the lighting is like at this place, but if any lights do hit it, would at least give a sense of it glowing a little.
Could also tape it to a strip of paper, and just loosely fit it in, so not to actually be adding sticky tape on it.
Just some ideas to think of.
