ROTS Vader Mask Interior-2

I just recently got asked to re-insert the diagram pic for this discovery thread. I have also noticed a invigorated enthusiasm for the reveal. Therfore I decided it might be cleaner to restart the thread. Here is a link to the old thread and and the diagram.

I've actually nearly completed the interior on this recently. A project that I've been dreading. But I think well worth the time and effort put into it. As I told
Darthmagpie recently, I will be posting pictures of the project VERY soon. I've got pieces in different stages of the molding process currently, so as soon as I have a set of castings to paint up (that won't take long) I'll post them up. I figured it's about time someone romped on this. I can't imagine why anyone hasn't really done it yet :wacko I'm hoping this will regenerate some interest in this fabulous piece ! Wether you like the ROTS Vader in his embarrassing mediocre role or not, this prop is an amazing piece that should be appreciated by ANY Vader fan :lol

Fettpride really been hoping to see you finish that reveal, it's a beauty. Can't wait to see your updates!
I've been working on a sort of OT/PT/personalised version, almost finished the exterior so starting to structure the interior at the moment >

Darth Magpie,
Is this part 23 you are alluding to in your diagram? If so I have highlighted it green, its kit part number 1, the area cut off (shaded region) is used for part 19

Don, do you recall what the sets of larger diameter, kind of tightly wound metal cable is that goes from the two forehead vents to the side mouth area? And those strange "arcing" parts with notches that rest on the flakvierling parts in the mouth?

thanks.

(I'm asking nicely but let me assure you I'm well versed in the art of kara-te)

Here is the pic I took of the interior ROTS Helmet. It shows a little more of the upper dome area...(I have more if needed)

Don,

Thanks so much for popping back in here. I was REALLY hoping you would. You're input is so appreciated :thumbsup

I might add (and I hope you don't take this as kissing up :lol) but I have to compliment you on your work with this piece. The more I look at it, the more I can appreciate the time and effort you put into this marvelous piece of movie history. And I personally thank you for giving "me" something different to obsess over for a change ;) I hope that I do your original work some justice :love It's a real shame that this helmet didn't get more screen time. With the level of detail you put into this, it amazes me that they covered most of it up in the 2.5 seconds we actually got to see it !

I'm curious about a couple of different things.

The first pic, I'd like to know if you remember what part was used for the center piece shown? Was it a transfer case/ rear end differential/ transmission bell housing from any particular model kit? This is one of the last pieces left for me and if it's an obtainable found part it sure would make life easier :lol

unknown1.jpg

Also, the 2 rings (upper and lower) that fit up into the inside of the crown of the face mask? Thoughts?

unknown2.jpg

Thanks in advance :thumbsup

blipper- that's a very nice job you've done there :love It's nice to see someone else with a desire to see this this come to life !!

onigiri - :lol I'll get some teasers up as soon as possible :thumbsup

Best,

Chris

The metal cable is cable housing, probably from Hosmer. I think that particular one is brass, as I recall one of them was very flexible..to be honest, I can't ID the source of the found parts, as it was stuff lying around the shop, and the model parts were all thrown in together in a big box, without their original boxes.

Chris-

Don't know what the first part is (model bits lying about!), but the second one is laser cut by my design.

Thanks for the nice words...kissing up is always appreciated.

Thankyou Don for the reply, and I'd like to echo Fettpride's sentiments also regarding your work on the helmet. Certainly to like minded Vader/prop fans it adds another interesting dimension.

You're very welcome then :lol

Thank you for the info. As far as not being able to identify the found parts because of them being scraps of this and that laying around go, that's pretty much as I expected, but I figured it was worth a shot :love Boy, wouldn't I love to get into those junk bins of yours someday tho ! :lol

At this point, it would narrow it down quite a bit if we can just identify as many of the custom laser cut parts as possible. That way we won't have to search in vain for parts that may not exist :cool

Any thoughts on the following pieces? Custom or found?

The first (highlighted in blue) - do you remember if it was a continuous piece wrapping all the way around the face mask inside, or two separate?

don_blue.jpg

The second (very roughly highlighted in green and gold)?

don_green.jpg

I'm assuming they're custom pieces because they're nearly identical to the what I presume is the original concept art and the doubt that anything real world would have fit the bill :confused

Thanks again Don !

Chris

Those highlighted are lasercut, and I can't remember if it wrapped around. Also, all the "copper" colored parts were laser cut...

I updated the list based on all the input. Thanks guys!

Don, I can't possibly explain how cool it is for you to be here giving us info on this!!!! Thank you so much, Ben

No problem.

If you have tighter shots of those in question, I can try to at least let you know what was custom and what was found. And if you do the color overlay thing, do the color over the other parts and not the one you want ID'd.

Thank you Don. It´s great that you share these informations with us.
Maybe I build a ROTS reveal mask sometimes as well.

This thread should be archived.

Don't know if these would help. I forgot I had these; I took them right after I finished making the interior. There are probably a few things that are no longer on the piece. Sorry about that last blurry photo...

Having seen these, I *think* that comb-shaped piece at the mouth grill is laser cut...but I can't remember.
