Rorschachs mask

Finally, the source of the mask is revealed. It's lycra, with the seam in the back, no seam front. Screenprinted on that, is the canvas texture, which gave it that "muslin" fabric look. Underneath the mask though, is a thin clear piece of plastic conforming to Jackie Earle Haleys face, which provides just enough relief for the spandex mask to stretch over giving it that "action figure-y" perfect look.

If anyone wants to get some white Lycra screenprinted with that texture, I'll do some facial shells.

very interesting, i never would have guessed it was lycra that has been screenprinted with the texture

They just upped the HD versions of this journal:

Some pretty good references in there.

It looks like one of the masks has a sideways figure eight shaped piece of mesh behind the eye holes:

I'm grabbing and uploading more screencaps here and here, for anyone after them.

So... are they just wussing out on the moving designs for his face? Or is this a "stand in" design that they'll CGI over later? :confused

Did you watch the video in the first post? They're primarily CGing in the faces, but they've got a handful of "hero" masks with specific designs representing emotions.

I saw the HD video today, it's very interesting. I'd love to make one of these masks, for display and for my costume, but there is so many cheaply-made ones out there.

Lycra hmmmm I had a feeling that's what they where using with some kind of face shell. A lycra mask can be painful after a prolonged period even with plastic or foam of some sorts to protect one's face from the pressure. I'd be interested in seeing the plastic they use on the actors face? Great link!

I thought it odd that they went with a canvas texture, in the story its a liquid suspended between two layers of plastic correct? Not that I'm one of those nit pickers but it seems like such a trivial detail to change.

Yeah, my understanding is that it was ink/vinyl or latex as well. I was suprised to see them go with a canvas.

He's been playing creeps for ages.

Actually, he had quite a dry spell from 1996 to 2006 when he showed back up as the Sex Offender in "Little Children." Yes he is a creep in that for sure, and I was shocked when I realized who it was.
Laffo.
