Ronon's Gun - [Stargate Atlantis]

I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but has anyone made a model of Ronon's Gun?

Is Wilcomodels a recaster? Not to start trouble or anything, but I am looking at one of his auctions for a so-called "fan produced' replica, and it looks like its an exact recast of the Marushin M2007 Mateba. It even has the MA-TE-BA laser engraving on the frame.

And for some reason there is an orange cap on the top of the frame when the barrell is clearly on the bottom :lol

However, he does appear to sell a kit for the Ronon gun. I think it'd need alot of work though.

No, I do not believe Wilco is a recaster. I can lay the Ronan gun to rest. That gun is an original sculpt that Wilco bought the molds too. They cleaned it up and are now selling it. I bought 1 of those since it is the ONLY one out there and it is actually a very clean kit. I am in the process of working mine over and getting it how I want.

I also plan to get a second one so I can do a Travelers version of the gun

If you want one, get it. It is a good kit

I recently bought a few Wilco kits and I was totally impressed with the quality of the low $$$ items. If you want perfection you will need to pay alot more. I will buy from him again. He is great for the budget builds with out a doubt. Just my 2 cents.

I did a few a year or two ago. Here are some fun pictures.

It didn't turn out very well but it did look very cool from about ten feet away. And the red parts are transparent so it would be very easy to put lights in.

If it had not been so ridiculously over sized I'd probably still be making them. I have plans to rework the buck some time this summer.

And that's me thread jackin :lol It's all about me now. :lol

Anyway that's a very cool picture, where did you get it ?

I think there's a version of this production print available in lower resolution on one of Atlantis season set bonus features. That one is usually the one you find floating around on the net and is like 1/2 or less in resolution than this one that was posted. This one posted here is the largest/clearest version of it I've seen to date, shouldn't be too hard to load it into a photo program that can do vectors and retrace it to blow it up.

Yeah, that's a nice pic. I wish they'd do a blueprint book for the Stargates or at least an Ultimate Visual Companion for Atlantis like they did for SG-1 a few years ago. I thought that book was pretty decent. It's the one that came with a DVD in the front cover. I just got done with a little project with said book. I scanned it all in (page by page) and made one big whopping .pdf file of it. 295 Mb.

I have one of these in my collection...it's one of my favorite props.
Regarding th post above, Stargate seems to really be lacking in tech books and merchandise in general. I wonder why?

Have anyone taken one of these Wilco kits and added power and LEDs?

While I like the kit, I'm not sure if it would be worth my while to attempt adding other stuff.

I dunno. They could now do one big tech book for SG-1 and Atlantis. Real photos and blueprints of all the weapons, gear, ships, and buildings. Or wait a little bit and include some of the tech stuff from Universe. I'd sure as hell buy a book like that.

I would like to know this as well. I was just about to create a thread on this as I've almost finished building up one of those Wilco kits and I think the end product would look so much better with at least the power cell glowing.

Ooo, post pics of your progress, I want to pick up one of these but would love to see some pics before I do!

I actually picked up one of those kits but ended up selling it. It was an clean cast but it's a big gun, way bigger than it looks in the show. I'm not a small person and it looked like a child was holding it. :lol I'm curious to know if his kit is over-sized or if the actual prop is that big.

You got it.

My pic taking was very spotty during the process, but I'm uploading pics as I type this and will post them right when they're done :lol

Right now the prop's paint is drying as it hangs off the living room fan, so it just needs to have the little amber bits glued into the emitter and the giant hemisphere glued into the energy cell and it'll be all ready to go, apart from wrapping the handle.

But it would look so cool with a lit power cell, even more than it does now...

EDIT: And the model itself is not oversized. His gun in the show is just that big =P

Okay- here are my progress pics on the Wilco model.

I apologize for the blurriness in some photos. I'll take really nice ones of the thing when it's all finished!

As I was epoxying it together:

As you can see, I drilled a hole straight through the top of the gun and through the power cell so I could put a steel rod through the whole assembly. This allows the power cell to turn to one side like in the TV series. The really nice thing was that Wilco cast the power cell and main body with little depressions in those areas and they're perfect guides for the drilling, if you want to do it.

With Propworx doing The Star Gate props weay see the hero and some stunts in collectors hands sometime this year.
