Rocketeer Helmet Lenses Help!

I thought hand making a rocketeer helmet would be a cool gift. But now I'm in way over my head. (I'm only on the bondo phase and all I can say about the whole thing is I'm terrible at sanding.) The tutorial I've mostly been following is this instructable I found: /Pepakura Rocketeer Helmet . But when the tutorial gets to the lenses, he just says that he had a friend make them. Someone on RPF named Oz. But you can't search for less than 3 letters on here, so I don't know how to go about finding them, and even if I did, why would they make lenses for a stranger?

I tried searching on here for how other people have made the same lenses, but it all involved things that I don't have and don't have access to. Like a heat gun.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make lenses for my helmet? I don't even know where to start.

Oh yeah. I thought it was odd looking too. I used a different Pepakura pattern that I found somewhere on RPF after some googling.

Thanks so much for the link. You made an amazing helmet. I hope mine turns out half as good.

A couple dumb questions for you, though. How do you cut plexiglass? Scissors? A dremel? And I've been building my helmet with the eye holes already cut out, so what would you suggest shaping them over to get the correct shape? Do you think an oven mitt is enough protection to use to protect my hand from the heat when I'm molding it? What type of glue did you use to hold in the lenses?

member ozymandius (probably the guy referred to in the instructables) makes rocketeer helmets, you can always try checking with him to see if he can hook you up with lenses

I would say find a surface close to your needs, whether on the helmet or elswhere, to use the method as stated in the old thread. As I recall, as far as cutting the acrylic, I used my Exacto Knife to score many cuts before I snapped pieces off and a file to make the shape I needed. I didn't have a dremel tool at the time, so patience had been a virtue in my pursuit of achievement. As far as adhesive was concerned, I had used Super Glue as it was called back then.

The glove I had used was a leather winter Thinsulated glove. An oven mitt would most likely fare better than that.
