Robocop 2014 (Post-release)

Just saw this. Was impressed with a few things. Unimpressed with others.
Bad:
1.The soundtrack felt lazy.
2. The Novak Element should NOT have been the intro AND outro!
3. Shaky cam really is a distraction at times. Especially after watching a still cam on a masterpiece like Gravity.
4. Mr. Sellers. What a way to wrap up his storyline. And wasn't that a crappy bodyguard? He just walked off after he had been shot. I didn't like how "Red assest" felt to me, which was a tacked on.
5. The drug dealer knew Robocop could be taken out by 50 cal. weapons.
Good:
1. EMO-Robocop. Let's face it, this is a different take on Robocop, a human in a robot body. He had some good sad scenes.:(
2. Robocop's suit. It was good, even the black one was much better in person. He had good movements, for the most part.
3. Novak Element. When he would show complete bias and cut off people, like a certain Fox News...:lol Pretty awesome.
4. Iran, intro. Perfect. Those Iranians love their freedom patrols.

So... anyone have any info on whether there will be an unrated director's cut Bluray version of this? I was thinking about pre-ordering from Amazon, but I feel like if I do I'll end up seeing a better version a few months later.

Saw it last night (for free, I'm not encouraging this crap by paying). Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I feared. There were a few neat ideas, and some solid acting by Keaton and Oldman, of course. I felt it was a little anti-climactic (no brilliant "You're fired!" style moment where something set in place earlier is fulfilled--Chekov's "If a gun is shown in act 1" and all that. The "red element" thing served, but wasn't half as clever). It plodded forward in a reasonably predictable manner, and entertained me for two hours.

My big gripe, and the reason the original is a brilliant classic and this will be forgotten in a year, is that it was utterly humorless. Even the "satire" of the Novak show was heavy-handed finger shaking...nothing like the wit of "Nuke 'Em!" or "6000 SUX." The original gloried in its comic nihilism, practically hummed with joyful excess. The remake is joyless and plodding.

Ironically, the fact that they were nothing alike helped me enjoy the remake more. It was so different I wasn't trying to connect them, like I was with the unwatchable Total Recall and NOES remakes, for instance.

A solid "meh."

Yup 4/10 for me... Really don't do justice to the original...
And I love Samuel L Jackson, but this character and this show really should have been cut of the movie...

Jumping in late here...but as re-makes go this wasn't a complete bust........story was pretty good. effects were as well. All in all a very watchable movie.

Hi everyone,m new here.
The movie was cool but not as intriguing as the first one 'as at that time'. I like the new suit better but like u said,it looks better on silver.I m guessing the next part would show him more on silver. Maybe his fingers whr left for thumb recognition in the nxt part too.

I'll say it again, as I completely agree with you.

The old RC is a great movie we all agree on that, but what I loved about the new RC is how it took the same theme and modernized with current political, social and technological issues.

"OMG why was thwere no hand spike!!"

Because it was a computer interaction key that made sense in the 80's but is now irrelevant in the days of WIFI and Bluetooth.

"HE HASD A BARE HAND THATS JUST STOOPID!!"

yes so stupid because having two robot hands is just what you need when trying to remember what feeling human was like (Which was Murphys main struggle in the original)

That only really bad plot hole this film had was the whole lobotomy issue towards the end. Didn't understand how he managed to come back after that.

Absolutely, i compare this remake to total recall, but they changed the entire view of the movie, if they went by RC logic then it would have been much better.

Hope it's true there's a sequel in the works... but that this is a working title and not what they're going with because it just sounds stupid.

IMDb - Robocops

It worked from Alien to Aliens, but it just sounds dumb here... to me anyway.

They have a pretty fun thing going on with their Facebook page right now to Photoshop Robocop into things. Some are hilarious. Update Your Browser | Facebook

(Disclaimer, I did the Daft Punk one)

Also the person(s) that handle their social media are hilarious.

Just got finished watching, it was OK and mostly enjoyable. They script was a little more serious about the subject than the original, I suppose if I didn't have so much nostalgia for the1st I would have enjoyed it more. On a side note my wife and daughter find the original to be completely ridiculous and cheesy, (I tend to agree but LOVE it anyway :D )
Gary Oldman's performance was awesome (like everything he does), Keaton was good and so was SLJ, I thought he was going to get through the movie without saying MF'er, but he just couldn't do it! :lol

Finally just saw it and I don't care what the haters say. I enjoyed the shizzit out of the new Robocop. Sure it ain't the original but it definitely had it's moments. I saw some moments from Robocop 2 tucked in there.

I said it before but I'll say it again... I'm hoping for a sequel.
I hope in the sequel, since Murphy can pretty much be "plugged" into any Robobody, they build him an "off-duty" body that looks more "human", where he can wear clothes and reintegrate with his family. It would make him more vulnerable in that he would have o "report for duty" and swap out bodies. I'd hate to see them go all Michael Bay and have his body morph-form into "tactical-mode".
I'm not sure what route they need to go with the story... The Robocops thing probably wouldn't be bad (except the title). Have people volunteering to get Robo'ed up and end up not being able to handle it and going all crazy and Murphy has to clean up OCP's mess. Not sure how many options there are.

My biggest gripe is that Murphy wasnt very likeable before he became Robocop, so its hard to find any sympathy for him afterwards.

Hell, its hard to find anyone to like in the film.

Good point. I liked Oldman's character. Everyone else I could pretty much care less about. Murphy I knew going into it I wouldn't like him. I don't like the actor all that much to begin with.

I have recently re-watched Robocop (2014).
I think after a second viewing i was more accepting. I actually hope the make a sequel but give it a bit more edge. I haven't heard any news in months, aside from the Robocops imdb page has anyone heard anything?
