Robin Hood (2010) Gods that was HORRIBLE! (No Spoilers)

It took the whole movie to get to the merry men in the forest part. I guess they're saving that for the sequel. Snicker.

I lost faith in Scott as a serious director with Gladiator (though the rot probably set in well before that), and casting Crowe was one of the problems in that film, so no way will I be seeing this.

Finally, someone who agrees that Gladiator is horrible!

^ Compared to Spartacus it was horrible, but if we lower our standards and be kind to Ridley, I'd say some of Glad was good, but the film was still holed below the waterline by:

1. Crowe whenever he wasn't fighting.

2. Crappy fantasy art helmet for Crowe instead of a period helmet.

3. A pervading shallowness - unbelievable from the director of Blade Runner and Alien.

And you know, you can't just stick Derek Jacobi in a toga and expect the film suddenly to gain the gravity of I Claudius or Spartacus...it was like Jacobi was delegated to provide the entire intellectual and moral weight of the film, by dint of being Derek Jacobi in a toga. But the guy can only do so much, you know..?

Just saw this tonight, I can forgive the dodgy accents, the side lining of the sheriff of Nottingham, and having to see ethnic cleansing in a film that I assumed would be rousing and escapist, only it wasn't, it dragged on, and on, with repressed memories, unlikely coincidences, and in the biggest WTF moment, Normandy style landing craft!

It just seemed like the whole thing was a set up to the next film, but they didn't make it entertaining enough for anyone to actually want a second film.
