Robin Hood (2010) Gods that was HORRIBLE! (No Spoilers)

And you thought the Kevin Costner one was bad..?? This one is the first film in a decade I can remember that I actually walked out of. Man it was bad.

Crow seemed to be trying but when you hear how he left a radio interview when asked about his accent... then see it on screen (I.e., several different ones!) you get the gist. :cry

I really cant believe Scott put his name on this one. Nonexistent directing, pitiful acting, disjointed and throughly confusing battle scenes, , and a total rewrite of a story everyone knows. All come together to make, well, I cant tell you what happened past the 1hr 15min mark... it was that bad.

My brother who stayed for the whole thing said it did not get much better and he honestly wished he had walked into IronMan 2 for the last half.

Pop in Gladiator and Master and Commander and you'll come away much happier.

Wow. When I rode the subways in NYC, the posters of Crowe were starting to grow on me. My gut feeling was that it was crap.. but it's not even entertaining? Thanks for the review.

It was an odd, disjointed film that seemed to go all over the map - but I'm not sure if I would've called it horrible, I found it entertaining (compared to Avatar or Transformers, it was almost good). It was an interesting twist they put on the legend, but one that surely didn't work... and a twist that they really, really didn't need.

I don't think Crowe and Blanchett would be anyone's pick for Robin and Marion as they're way too old and seemed to have little if any chemistry. I little explanation for the "lost boys" might've been nice and Marion showing up at the end in armor as she did was just absurd (shades of Return of the King).

I did think King John was superb. I hated the guy - as I was supposed to. But, I expected more from Mark Strong's Godfrey.

...and not enough bows and arrows.

Completely agree- saw it last night with a buddy and we both thought it was RUBBISH.

What a friggin' POINTLESS movie and waste of my $10.

Honestly folks, I am a die hard Ridley Scott fan- the man has not steered me wrong in many a moon, and I had every hope in the world for this movie to be good....no, GREAT. Loved Russell Crowe as Maximus, and love Cate Blanchett.

I cannot tell you the number of times I've watched Gladiator. It's my 'go to' movie when I feel there's nothing on the boob tube.

I didn't give a rat's azzzzzzz about ANY of the familiar characters....Little John, Friar Tuck....annoying and/or pointless. The Sherrif of Nottingham? Reduced to a practical 'cameo' appearance. The pacing of the flick was awful, and I pretty much waited 2 hours and 20 minutes for SOMETHING profound to happen and was sorely disappointed. Lots of jabber punctuated by very little action (poorly choreographed action at that).

Did I mention this movie was POINTLESS?

It felt terribly long to me and I kept wanting to look at my watch, which is NEVER a good sign.

They're trying to ride the coat-tails of Gladiator with this one, but let's face it, it's not gonna be the same without Richard Harris and Oliver Reed. :p

Ah, damn. I've had a bad feeling about this since the first trailer, but I held out a little bit of hope - wanted to like it. With what I've been hearing lately I knew the chances were looking slim. Thanks for the review.

Edit - wow, several posts since I loaded this page and it's looking pretty unanimous then! A stinker... :(

This review nails it.

Yes, I agree with all the comments here !!! I saw it yesterday and said to myself : "I should had wait to see it in DVD on my TV"....

Can't be compared to "Gladiator".....When you watch "Gladiator", there's something happening inside of you...something strong !!!

Here....nothing :thumbsdown

The story is "weird" to say the least, Blanchett at the end fighting with an armor. Not much battles and arrows as depicted above...

No, I'm really disappointed with that movie.

It sounded ok, Ridley Scott, Crowe, Robin Hood, a new take ... What could go wrong ?

One of the things I noticed was a number of scenes that probably happened because some guys went "wouldn't it be cool if ?" and they ended up in the movie. Stuff like the battering ram horses, the French "Landing Craft Knights" etc ...

Not that I care, but is this a spoiler? :)

Man, sounds like this movie really tanked....that's such a surprise coming from the likes of Ridley Scott.

The man made Kingdom of Heaven. I can't belive you all didn't see this coming. He hasn't been a good director in a long, long time.

I liked it.
Yeah it was long and slow at times but that is one of the trademarks of a Ridley Scott film. I didn't love it, but I have not loved any of his "epic" film. It was entertaining, and interesting to see a slightly different Robin Hood story. more humor then I expected and I liked the battle scenes. I will probably pick it up on DVD as well.

I have an early wood block print of Robin Hood tattooed, and was wondering whether I'd enjoy this film. I disliked the Costner Robin Hood, and much prefer the Erroll Flynn and Patrick Bergin ones. I was fairly convinced already that this movie would blow, these reviews mean I'll likely be skipping this.

I have to agree with all this too. I wasn't expecting this to be outstanding, but I also wasn't expecting the lost boys or the reversed D-day landings (WTF?). A lot of good ideas, loved the first 15 ish mins, great to see the Lionheart in France, nice to see Alan-a-Dale, as as stated earlier, John was fantastic.

However LOTS of VERY BAD ideas too, and totally unnecessary, what was with the lost Boys? Stupid. When did Robin Hood turn into William Wallace? TERRIBLE accents throughout, HIRE A BETTER COACH!

It felt to me like a REALLY stretched out first act of the movie that should have been made. It's almost like Batman Begins in that respect, except that Begins had a second and third act that delivered on the unfamiliar start! This does not.

Dead End.

If this was called Ivanhoe and not Robin Hood, it would be a much better film. They took out the classic story and legend and replaced it with..................nothing at all.

When did Robin Hood turn into William Wallace?

I haven't seen the film, so I'm not sure where exactly you're going there (or what in the film leads to this comment).

But...

I have read that it has been suggested that the legend of Robinhood may have roots with Wallace.
