Rise of the Planet of the Apes SPOILERS

I was kind of hoping the super drug would end up mysteriously killing all the dogs and cats instead of humans. I always liked that storyline from the original films and that was the reason humans began to domesticate the apes and use them as labor. But I guess wiping out most of humanity is more scary than that. Great film, I totally enjoyed it. Can't wait for the sequel(s).

The dog and cat thing could still happen. Did we see it kill people? I don't remember.

It could kill the dogs and cats and only make people sick. Then they use the new drug to make the other apes in the world smart enough to make them slaves.

Then Caeser frees the rest of them with his revolution. Because face it, he only has what, a couple hundred maybe, troops.

Unless they go nuclear war again.

They BETTER "go nuclear war again"! With the original film being made at the height of the Cold War, that was the CLEAR implication when Chuck stumbled upon the Statue of Liberty. If these prequels don't follow through on that storyline, I'm gonna be PISSED!

Just back from seeing this, matinee..... only person in the theatre .... as usual !

This time there wasn't just one other, nope, it was me alone :lol

I therefore let go out loud what I usually restrain myself from doing - oo's, ahhhhs, Oh My God's !, HaHaHaHa !'s .... and running commentry to my heart's content in a constant soliloquy.

Projector guy gave me a weird look or 2 when I walked out, but I gave him the :darnkids look

(Yeah, thanks again for that Art :lol)

Had a whale of a time ! Fantastic film ! Haven't enjoyed myself that much in a while ! 100 points ALL round :thumbsup

And there is definitely going to be a sequel I think, as there HAS to be a bridge between what I saw today, and POTA.

The nukes could still happen as someone could get trigger happy in order to stop the ape rebellion. Actually in the original movies is that what caused the war or did it happen to take place at the same time?

Caesar predicts the "day of the writing in the sky, when your cities lie buried under radioactive rubble, where the sea is a dead and the land is a wastland...".

Implied that it will happen due to his revolution.

In the timeline of the original five films, presumably it may have happened between Conquest and Battle--Conquest ends with the apes beginning to take control, and when Battle starts the apes are in control and groups of the surviving rebellious humans are living in the rubble of destroyed cities (allegedly, the mutant humans in Beneath are their descendants).

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was great, loved it. And they went with a neat setup for potential sequels, so I do hope they continue the franchise. With more animation movies releases, they eventually went with a Best Animation category at the Oscars, but Toy Story did receive a Special Achievement Academy Award. So next year Andy Serkis definitely deserves something similar.

Also hoping Weta will release a collectible statue of Caesar in a striking pose.

I had only seen the original film and Escape from the Planet of the Apes as a kid and later the remake. The original film has always been of my favourite sci-fi films. So over the weekend I read the novel for the first time, which was brilliant and quite haunting. The original film though deviates from the novel in many ways, it still managed to capture the eeriness of the novel. But that quality was totally missed out in the remake. And then watched all the sequels, including the remake. I really enjoyed all the other sequels and how they inter-connect and immediately follow up with their preceding films. Also liked some of the cool production design of the dystopian city in the sequel, though some of the backgrounds were matte paintings, others like the underground interiors were real sets which I miss in modern films.

Does anyone have a picture of the new Icarus? I thought there was a fleeting glance of it in the newspaper article about the ship being lost in space (loved that headline by the way).

Thanks

It definitely was on the TV news shot of the launch. It went by too quickly for me to see anything other than the delta shape, though.

Just watched Rise Of The Planet of the Apes

Just got done watching it and i was really pleasantly surprised. The CGI was pretty good in most parts and they did a good job of making you feel not just for the apes but for James Franco's character's motivation for making the treatment. I have to say that having had a grandmother with Altzheimers that John Lithgow did a really good job of portraying his character. A lot of the easter eggs for fans of the old movies are well hidden by being character names (or combinations of them) while other are more obvious.
The ending during the credits does a good job of setting up the story for the future and could even explain why nukes would have been used, if they go that route with the sequels. Overall I'd give it 8 out of 10.

Re: Just watched Rise Of The Planet of the Apes

It wasn't bad but really left a half a$$ ending. You are right about feeling for the characters though. Overall 7 out of 10 for me.

Re: Just watched Rise Of The Planet of the Apes

As a ape=crazy original ape fan, i HATED rise, it had a good story line and didnt need to ride on the back of the apes franchise. But i HATE!!!! C.G.I. . iM sorry tim burtons was terrible but makeup and costumes were second to none, great job. And thats what started the whole thing great makeup and costumes,as well as a great story. If fox goes further with this i hope they go back to there roots and real make up and actors and not cartoons. goapebilly

Re: Just watched Rise Of The Planet of the Apes

99% of the time I'm against CGI, because it never seems to look right. But I thought the CGI in Rise was fantastic. The whole movie totally surprised me.

Re: Just watched Rise Of The Planet of the Apes

I've never really been a fan of the POtA movies. They are definitely watchable for me I just never really got into them enough to even own a copy.

However...Rise I thought was a pretty good film. The CGI was outstanding and the whole idea of a prequel, especially since this one "did it right", was sorely needed.

8 Outta 10

Re: Just watched Rise Of The Planet of the Apes

I was dubious about watching it thanks to Tim burtons version. Cgi was really good and the emotion conveyed though those damn dirty apes was amazing. James Franco did an excellent job as well as the guy from third rock from the sun, all in all brilliant movie!
