RIP Val Kilmer

I met Val back in 2018 at Motor City Comic Con, he was so kind and down to earth despite his limited speaking ability, he loved my batsuit and I even gifted him a steel batarang which he absolutely loved

Sad, but not surprising. He looked so awful that past few years it was obvious he was quite ill. Superb actor, but, reportedly, very difficult to work with. The work holds up though.

Rest easy, Val.

Other stars' & directors' comments about him were wide-ranging. Sometimes they said he was chill & friendly, other times they said he was a disaster.

It was rumored that Val Kilmer was considered for the T-1000 in 'Terminator 2' but Schwarzenegger didn't want to work with him. (And Billy Idol had the role but then he broke his leg in a motorcycle accident.)

It's also said that Arnie didn't wanna deal with Val in 'Batman and Robin' either. So they elected to replace Val (with George Clooney) and keep Arnie.

There's a Bill Murray quote that goes like: "When you first become famous you act like an an a--hole. Everybody does it. But if you haven't gotten that out of your system in 1-2 years then it's permanent."

I get the impression that Val might have been an exception. Like maybe he did get it out of his system but it took 10 years. Stallone kinda seemed that way with his ego.

You Val Kilmer fans, if you have not seen the documentary "Val" made by his son a couple years back, you owe it to yourself. It is staggeringly good, because Val handed over hundreds of hours of old footage. Val used to take a videocamera to the set when he was younger, so he's captured so many iconic actors and scenes behind-the-scenes that had never seen the light of day. His son narrates it, and it is ridiculously sweet. But also unvarnished about his divorce and stuff. It's on Amazon Prime. Sooooooo good! Have the Kleenex box handy.

Val (2021) ⭐ 7.5 | Documentary, Biography

The trailer alone is amazing.

RIP Val.

Can imagine him up there now, puffing on a cigarette and telling God that one everlasting saying -

' You can be my Wingman anytime'

The documentary is really worth watching. The Saint was always a guilty pleasure, but Top Secret! is always a fun watch. Loved The Ghost and The Darkness as well. I think that's often one of his overlooked roles. And of course Heat and Tombstone. I can't help but wonder what impact if any this will have on Heat 2.

The only actor to play both Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday.
Rest well Doc ! Oddly, Walter Huston played Wyatt in Law and Order 1931 but they changed the character name for legal reasons. He also played Doc in The Outlaw ! I think that's as close as it gets ...

I think its pretty cool that some combat instructors use his scene in Heat during the shoot out to show "Bounding Overwatch".
