Rinzler's "The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi"

I can't vouch for the Kindle edition as I'd personally prefer to have the physical book as a coffee table piece. But what's amazing to me is that after all these years and the countless publications that have come to the press about anything and everything Star Wars, there is always yet another book that contains never-before-seen photos of these movies. There have to be millions of them stashed away in the archives...:wacko

Hi dbuck, have you had a chance to peruse the eoboks? Particlary interested in 'A new Hope'. The amazon description mentions numerous unpublished photos (not seen in the book), and some videos of some type also (obviously) not in the book.

I will be picking up the A New Hope soon (late to the game i know), just wondering if the ebooks are worth it.

Thanks

I don't know, but I was dumb enough to buy all three on kindle anyway. I doubt it'll have 18 bucks worth of goodies over the books that's already have, but what the heck.

Curious to read reactions to the book. As with the others, some mis-attributed images, bits we'll find various means to contradict, but in all a well-done and welcome addition. The coverage, his choice of tense and separating 'then' and 'now' (or, time of production and thoughts from various interviews since), and the flow of the events is as appreciated as with the first two. Especially taken with the efforts to give voice/face to artists who've frankly not been heard of outside of ILM or at best who were thought to have marginal contributions... this sets a bit straight.

I got my copy today. Flipped through, looked at pics, haven't started reading it yet.

Compared to the ANH and ESB book, the photos in this one are nothing special. I only saw a handful of interesting, new photos.

I don't think I saw any useful prop photos.

The kindle versions were delayed three weeks. My physical copy will be here in a day or two.

Re: Rinzler's "The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi"

No complaints from me, in fact quite opposite!!!!!
Its a beautiful book full covering all the elements of the films production as you would expect from beginning to end, with hundreds of illustrations, set pictures (including a stunning one of Princess Leia in THAT costume and a surprise foe for the Rancor that made me burst out with laughter when I saw it). Plenty of stuff that was new to me that I hadn't seen before and reams of detailed production notes. I’ve spent a good evening just browsing through it and smiling at certain photos. I’ll even forgive the ewoks (and interestingly they don’t appear that much) .
The whole series is a superb recollection on how these films were made nearly three decades ago and this last one completes the series most fittingly. It’s a superb final addition that completes a stunning set. No real fan of the trilogy can call himself that and NOT have these volumes.I'm looking forward to completely reading it from cover to cover now the nights are drawing in. I'd really go for the hardback if you can get it.

My copy arrived from Amazon earlier today, I'd have to say there was a rather nice Leia double spread in there :love

I had already seen all those Leia pics before.

I really liked the photos from the deleted cave scene.

There were several pics that would be great for props except they were too small.

The Leia Pin-up spread was a fun surprise.

Not as many mind blowing photos as the other two books but still a solid addition.

Can't wait to read the brick now.

Got my copy yesterday and started in on it. I'm really enjoying reading these recorded conversations of Lucas and the writers trying to come up with ideas. it's just amazing the way the story evolved and is pretty much nothing like the way it was originally.

As with the other two, this thing is huge! Definitely not a book for laying in the bed and reading.

The kindle versions didn't come out until a couple of days ago.

I captured the lists of enhancements from each of the three books.
