We heard a while back that Del Torro and Co had binned "At The Mountains of Madness" because of the close similarities to the "Prometheus" production.
More like a completely Updated Copy.
For "Shoggoths" read Engineers. Instead of Antartica ,a whole planet. Everything else is in there as well ,from the ancient alien city, the strange hieroglyphs, coming to Earth from the Stars , Tenticled Monsters etc.
I always felt "The Thing" owed a substantial parentage to ATMOM but without doubt "Prometheus" is going to be the favoured child from now on ,as well as owing a debt to that film as well . The Lovecraftian elements are just too strong to ignore. Considering that story is nearly a hundred years old no wonder the marketing has gone so mad of late. No doing a John Carter here.
Still hovering at B-. Technically it will look brilliant, the productional values are superb, and it will be a thrilling ride.
BUT, as many of us guessed this will be pretty mainstream now and the problem is its all starting to feel overly familair.
For those of us looking for a repeat of those halcyon Alien days, well theres always the memories. As long as there are no penguins in it I will enjoy it but the Cthulhu element glimpsed feels like a bit of a dropped ball. Not the beast I was looking for, but I can still hope.
