Isnt ALIEN technically a remake of DARK STAR? Or is ALIEN Sir Ridleys interpretation of DARK STAR? The foundation of the ALIEN universe was laid down in that "project" movie. I will be very interested to see if SRS uses any reference at all to any of the films made after his, especially Camerons as i would think in his mind, SRS, that only one ALIEN film was ever made.

Yes but am i the only one who sees residue of Dark Star all through ALIEN?
They both featured blue-collar workers in space and an alien.
I'm glad you don't have Photoshop.![]()
No. There's me too. Alien is an expansion of a Dark Star subplot. Plus, Brett's walk through the bowels of the ship to his doom is a definite 'version' of Pinback's similar lonely walk, especially when he picks up the shed skin, which is a repeat of the shot of O'Bannon with the shredded beach ball skin. Even the lighting is very similar in those shots. Also, the space-weary mood of the crew is a Dark Star hangover for sure. Different over-all plots, as Carson points out, obviously, but Alien is built in part on Carpenter's illustrious movie.
Btw, I hate the way the alien has come to be dubbed the xenomorph or xeno, through the influence of the later films. For me, it will always be 'the alien'.

Never said it was a remake. Just pointing out the similarities.
Isnt ALIEN technically a remake of DARK STAR?.
the only person who can say it is a remake or not is SRS and ive never heard or read of him talk about it
I'm guessing the reason Scott has never addressed the "Is ALIEN a remake of Dark Star?" question is because no one ever has been foolish enough to ask him.
Though it'd be worth it just to see his expression.
