Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

Sound effects from the original ALIEN movie and trailer?
Non-temp track music Jerry Goldsmith did for Alien?
Producers David Giler and Walter Hill?

It may not feature the Aliens, but I'm still calling it an ALIEN movie.

Yeah, I'm like, "this has nothing to do with ALIEN." Then you look at the trailer and it looks exactly like ALIEN. :lol

:thumbsup Go Ridley.

I'm liking these spacesuits. And not for the obvious reasons. :)

The bubble helmet that's narrow in the front view but circular in the side view is a nice touch.

The spacesuits are really incredible, there are at least 3 different variations. If you look close in the pic above posted by Phase Pistol, you can see two vid screens on each side of her face inside the helmet. I love the bubble style with the skin tight version.

LOOK!

the Weyland Yutani logo!

the WY "backstory" in the Alien and later AvP movies always interested me more than just seeing folks get killed by monsters.
I hope this movie delves into that more

As a marketing campaign you've really got to admire this. First a trailer of a trailer! Now a countdown by teasers for a trailer! Sir Ridleys a clever sly devil (in a very positive way!!!!). Loads of important films being advertised in the last few days and he launches his by racking up the tension and interest in instalments to fever pitch to something we've already had a grainy glimpse of before. Genius! If he can do this with the advertising what will he do with the film?
Interesting nobody seems to have really picked up on his comments in the second trailer.
"What they find are dangerous elements capable in a heartbeat, of eviscerating all of them." Well, what CAN POSSIBLY disembowel a person ( in space, where no one can here you scream (but there was quite alot of that anyway)) in a split second?
Hmmmm. Certainly sounds like a TYPE of Alien element to me, without actually saying it out loud Sir Ridley! Otherwise what are they shooting at with the guns and what are those flamethrowers for. They are certainly bent on using them on something and I don't think its starting a BBQ (then again flamegrilled Xenomorph seems to be a space speciallity)

Rated PG-13

....and you lost me.
Wasn't he doing 2 versions? Hope both gets a theatrical release so people can choose. I'm going for R-rating.

I know it's not the same as in the seventies anymore, but maybe he's taking steps to ensure that theater owners don't cut out parts of his movie in showings.

Knowing Ridley, the father of Director's Cuts, that'll probably happen only on video. But in this case, I wish it wasn't a choice. Now I'm not against releasing alternate versions of films on video (I prefer a lot of extended/unrated versions myself), but when it comes to this franchise, making it tamer hardly adds anything new except the hope they'll fill in seats in the theater. That's it. Here are some comments from our one and only Damon Lindelof again speaking at ComicCon.

"I think a PG-13 movie can be very, very scary, but it just has to be more clever about how it’s scary. This movie is not going to be gory. It’s going to be a psychological underpinning of how something very, very bad is about to happen. I don’t know what that bad thing is, I’m very nervous about it, and I know that it’s coming. That’s very cool."

And this one from another source.

"if the original 'Alien' were released today, minus the F-bombs, you could still get a PG-13. 'Alien' is a very 'Jaws'-ian movie: Theres no sex, and while theres lots of violence, most of it is off-camera. Maybe youd have to cut away from certain scenes two seconds earlier, but it could be done."

Ugh... Yeah. Anyone remember all those critics and fans who demanded a tamer cut of our beloved classic? Anyone ever catch the fan edits that impose their own PG-13 cut of Alien?

I hate PG-13 with a vengeance. Things that should be more open get grittier for a PG-13 (Star Trek) and things that should be more grittier get toned down for a PG-13 (AvP, Live Free or Die Hard).

Also, the movie is coming out in 3D, which is a big give away that the studio wants a PG-13 movie to get as many people into the theaters to pay that extra cost.

Hell, you could edit just about any movie by a few seconds here and there and get a PG-13.

Obviously that isn't what Ridley wanted. The chestburster scene alone will still give the film a "R" rating even today.

I'm not necessarily against PG-13 in itself. What I am against is studio pressure forcing a director to edit a film down to PG-13 level in order to allow for a wider audience. If they pull that here, it goes without saying that there will be a "Director's Cut" later. As you said, Ridley is the father of the Director's Cut.

Now, if Ridley makes the film as he wants, and it just happens not to have any ludicrously gory scenes in it, it may well get a PG-13 on its own, without him having to do anything with it. In that case, I'm okay with it. But I want to hear it from Ridley's mouth saying that the film is exactly the way he wanted it, sans studio pressure, before I'll be truly okay with it.

It's entirely possible he may intentionally add a few shots here and there to push it over into "R" territory, and I'm perfectly okay with that too. I'm a big boy now.. hehe. As long as the film is what Ridley set out to make, then I'll be happy, regardless of the rating.

But a "R" would keep the kiddies out of the theater on opening day.. hehe.

Full trailer 1.08 mins out there for anyone desperate for a glimpse before the official release date .Try the usual sites. A few frames are different from the early one leaked but the quality is much, much better. You can even see a space jockey skull being examined on a med table if you are quick enough with the pause key.

its definately an alien prequel . all this stuff about oh its not . no way ! one veiw of the trailer shows the space jockey ship . my guess the movies going to be humanities first contact with the evil space jockeys and the aliens are there undoing and there going to explain how the derilact ended up on lv426 and why there was a distress signal coming from the jockeys ship that let the nostromo home in on it . there i ruined the movie . im just happy its part of the alien franchise and not something else .
