Ridley Scott Prometheus: NOT the Alien Prequel Details

I still don't want to believe there are not classic Aliens in this movie :confused

I hope he's just trying to keep the secret :unsure

Or at least I hope there's a new kind of Alien, maybe even more awesome than the original one

I don't see why he'd bother putting them in. As he said, it's been done to death. I think that's the reason why they keep saying this isn't an Alien film, it isn't a prequel, because if they do say that it's a prequel/Alien film, then people will be really disappointed not to see any Aliens.

That doesn't mean he can't talk about them. I still think we're going to get THE EXPLANATION, information on what they really are and what their purpose is. That doesn't require them to actually appear on-screen. And if it segues properly into the original film, it could make the creature's first appearance there even more amazing.

Ah hell, the Alien is like pizza or sex. More please :thumbsup Still, your last sentence makes me think you could be on to something. Like Jabba showing up pre-ROTJ, having the Alien in Prom. could spoil its first appearance in the original flick.

If you want Aliens go watch AVPR, by far the best Alien Movie ever made :lol
:sick

Watch what? The movie's so dark I can't see a flippin' thing on screen. To think that the franchise hired a director that completely misinterpreted the statement "make it a darker film than the last one".

I actually only have one film in the series on Blu-ray. Guess which one? And no, it's not AVPR.. that's the one that I don't own a copy of at all.

AVP:R looks ok if you're willing to mess with your TV's contrast and brightness. Sure the blacks get a little washed out, but that's the price you pay I guess. Would it have been better to have competent lighting? Of course. But is it better than nothing? To see the Wolf in all his glory, oh hell yes!

While the connection to the first Alien film is pretty good, I hope they don't try to disconnect with ALIENS. Like calling LV-426 something else entirely. Grr, that would just kill my anticipation.

Well, it wasn't named in the first movie. That only happened later when they started making the atmosphere processor for terraforming. In the first one it was just an undiscovered/unexplored unnamed moon, iirc.

True. Would just be a weird move.

Knowing Damon Lindelof, he's probably fallen in love with Ridley Scott so much that ALIEN and this film are the only Alien films in existence. After all, he used to comment his distaste for the Star Wars prequels, until George Lucas sent the team of LOST a letter saying how much he liked the show.

"I take back everything I said about the prequels!"

He is a character.

I'd take it that the "Alien" as we know it from the first film is already "an adapted weapon" from a previous encounter with human beings, in all likelyhood the crew of Prometheus. Given the way Giger built the creature around the human skeleton and skull and the facehugger seemed perfectly designed to attatch itself to a human head with human like hands, I would guess thats what Ridley is hinting at ie; that we will not see it in its human templated form, but in its actual prehuman origins, yet we will still be able to recognise elements of the first films design in the new creatures.
Sounds to me like Ridley is pushing the "species weapon theory" for the film hard. I'd guess the real focus is that we humans mess up first contact (again) very badly and the Alien is one of the more hideous results.
This is very like that the rough storyline that was floating around about twelve years ago where the "spacejockey" civilization adapted its own life forms to fit the environmental conditions they encountered and had subcasts, like warriors, engineers, workers etc similar to the selenites from HG WELLS "First men on the Moon." Can't see a common cold killing this lot off though. Didn't have the messing with ancient human past in it,but a human survey team found a partially reterraformed planet where another civilisation had been wiped out by different form of the "Aliens", which inturn were now all dead (limited lifespan built into their genetic code). The life cycle there involved an Ichneumon wasp like element, rather than facehuggers to start with, which was quite elegant. Did Ridley or FOX buy the script and retool it for a scarier 2001 version?
For those who are worried about the "low" budget being reported and rating watch "District Nine" again. That got a 15 in the UK and was amazingly gruesome and gory! It also cost just $30 million and made back seven times its investment ($210 million) and its effects at all levels were superb! Its certainly arguably the best hard sci fi film to come out in the last twenty years. I still don't much like the human origins storyline in Prometheus, but this is science fiction afterall , just like 2001 ,though probably an action updated version for the new need-to- be-thrilled generations. And I am grateful for that.

Lol! I'm just saying he is smart to distance himself from all that just because of what it has become (Alien franchise). Sure he invented it, but now it is up to him to give us something new and exciting.

What They Said: Ridley Scott Says no 'Aliens' in 'Prometheus;' Compares Noomi Rapace to Sigourney Weaver and More | Movie News | Movies.com
"For those still wondering if the infamous Xenomorphs of Alien will be in the film, we bring disappointing news. When asked about the topic, Scott answers glibly, “No. Absolutely not. They squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, ***** ******!”

The lack of the Xenomorphs running amok mostly means that Prometheus won’t be a direct prequel to the original Alien. However, as Scott has pointed out, it does tie in – mostly because Prometheus builds off the idea of the infamous “Space Jockey” seen in the original film.

“I was always amazed that, I mean, I’ve only done two science-fictions, but I was always amazed that no one asked who the hell the Space Jockey was. He wasn’t even called the Space Jockey. During the film they started to call it the Space Jockey. I don’t know who started that one off. I always thought it was amazing that no one ever asked who he was, and why was he there? What was all that about? I sat thinking about this for a while and thought, well, there’s a story! And the other four [films] missed it! So, here it is.”"

Impressive. You can tell immediately how much they've darkened the tone of the film digitally to match the original. And those damn sets are huge and epically Gigerish. I guess the trailer will be in cinemas with "The Girl WTDT" from Boxing day, hence the early release Thursday.
