Revisiting the TFA/TLJ Graflex....are they really the same?

To my knowledge I don't believe the TFA bottom was pushed in; both TFA and TLJ were fully extended. Roy's overlay may not be quite aligned correctly. Also as previously mentioned his overlay has a 92mm bottom and the reference photo may not be the best quality and may be tricking the eye on proper alignment.

Anyone have any information on the smooth glass eye? Is it simply a knurled glass eye sanded down to expose the brass? Thank you so much for your time.
