Reveiw on Diamond Indy gold idol bank?

Mine should be in the mail any day...but some ppl at COW are giving it a decent review. Soft vinyl so a repaint may be tricky..and the casting has some swirls apparently, but for the price a decent 'toy'.

I think the size was good too..but no comparison shots beside other "replicas".

Here ya go - mine arrived today.

Idol on the left is a vacuum metalized resin repro from Alberta Industrial Models that I've had for probably 10 years now - not sure about its provenance. The Diamond Select bank is on the right.

Most obvious is the size (which looks good), the headband, and the lack of some minor details. I also noticed some asymmetry of the head - see how it's a bit higher on the left.

I agree i got mine today and the quality of the idol is not bad at all.I was really expecting a cheap piece of crap but hey for the money I'm very happy.

Got mine at a comic shop. I wasn't up on going after one, but when faced with it for 20 bucks I figured wtf.

I like it! I'll patch up the slot when I get the chance, but this is a very nice item for the cash. The block in the case is from the Raiders set, I'll have to work them together in a display.

LOL! I had no clue they existed. very cool. I found a site selling them for $15.99 makes me want one. Needs a patch and paint job.

Just don't be surprised when you go to get your money out of it, and you find it has been replaced with a sandbag. :sleep

If anyone lives in Atlanta and wants to see them in a store, they have 'em at Oxford Comics on Piedmont Road. I thought it looked pretty good.

I would fill the slot in the back, get rid of the stupid head band, get it plated and voila! Full size idol with correct shaped mouth!

yep...gotta admit that I'm really happy with my Idol bank. Great item for the cost.

Agreed. Got mine today.

When comparing cost to accuracy; unbeatable. This is at least as good as half the resin replicas out there. A plated, resin cast of this idol would rival a Gobler.

Now Now Rob. Don't get ahead of yourself. It would need a bit of work before it rivaled a Gobler.

Brad

Yeah - like removing the head band. What else?

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the Gobler in person. Besides being BIG, what else? Is it cast in gold? Is it cast off an original?

"Rival" doesn't necessarily equate to "beat" or "exceed".

However, when combing both factors of physical differences versus cost differences, I would go out on a limb and say that this bank version does, in fact, "beat" the Gobler (or any other, for that matter).

Consider the percentage difference in physical attributes, as opposed to the percentage difference of the cost. Physically, I'd bet this version is minimally different than the Gobler, (or the original), and those difference would only be apparent to freaks like us. But the cost difference renders it a winner hands down when combining both factors.

Or in other words, yeah, physically, I'd bet that sure - the Gobler is the best. But clearly the COST of this one is "the best" in that arena.

And the bank version gains SO much ground when looking at cost, that - in my opinion - it surpasses whatever lead the Gobler may hold in terms of physical traits.
