Restrainingbolt's Raiders Map Recast on Ebay?

Hard to tell by the pic if it is the one from my site. Pat would probably know better than I would. I don't know what "tells" he put on it.

hes not the only one selling the restraining bolt map on ebay, i wouldnt be suprised if the other was ripped off as well.

I asked the seller where he got them, he said:

"I'm just the middle man. Dunno where they came from originally. I figure they're something that Lucasfilm put out."

I informed him that it might be the copyrighted artwork of someone I knew and that I want to get a decent image of the one he is selling to compare it to.

I don't think that is going to happen.

I guess we will have to VERO him. ;-)

I think I am going to remove the link from my site. I will still host it, but only for RPF members.

So, I just go tthis:

How did he copyright something that is the intellectual property of Lucasfilm Ltd?

What would be my best response? I think he is lying.

Good thinking, but I have a feeling that too many people that have no scrupples already have this file.

I wouldn't reply to him, just inform Ebay.

Good Luck,
Brad

Maybe you should ask him how much he's paying in licensing fees to Lucasfilm in order to legally sell their "copyrighted intellectual property".

LucasFilm never created a map. The map was only hinted at. The only showed indy holding 3 pieces of paper - never what was on it. Darth Saber created the map from scratch and therefore owns the intellectual property rights to the map. The map is 100% fan created and should be treated the same as any other piece of artwork.

I have a really cool little book I got here in the uk, 'Indiana Jones Diary'.
I havent seen it mentioned on the RPF.This may be 'old hat' but there are some cool artworks in it- and I am sure one of which is a version of the same map.
Its worth a look if you havent seen it ( its a very basic read but the visuals are impressive)

The raiders map was blank.
So a replica would be blank paper.
That is not Lucas intellectual property, but original artwork.

Is the map in the book the same or very similar ?

The map in the book referenced here was created by me (I worked on this book). The map I created actually inspired much of the basic layout and design of Darth Sabre's version, but with enough changes to make it truely his own. I'm sure Vero would shut down this auction if contacted properly.

well, it looks like a little pressure almost worked.

He went from selling the map to giving it away for free, but you pay for the instructions to weather it.

He even uses a piece f the map in this one, but reversed it, like we wouldn't figure it out

What a dick.

I decided to leave the map up, but I am putting it in a encrypted ZIP file. If someone wants it, they have to ask for the key.

"Now limited supply"... Very classy way to admit that he's scared to be busted by eBay soon...:rolleyes

You know what? I think you should inform eBay anyway, we should let these people know that we CAN do something about recasters/resellers of our work!

I love how he says: "Due to the overwhelming demand and popularity of the new Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie, this Indiana Jones item is now in limited supply - Get your now before they're gone forever!"

Coz, y'know... printers won't make more or anything.

Lamest. Excuse. Ever.

Ever.

****in' ever.

More like, "Get yours now before eBay pulls my auctions because I'm stealing someone else's work." :rolleyes

BTW Goodwolf, I love your avatar!!! (y)thumbsup
