I was wondering...... Would it be possible to brush resin onto a blank latex mask in order to turn it into a solid, inflexible bust? Would this work? Would it rot or destroy the latex? Thoughts, ideas, opinions?
I would think it would just flex off eventually, not to mention, resin would obscure any detail on a mask, not a good idea i think, can you not strengthen it internally?, foam fill it perhaps?
I suppose foam filling is one way to go. I just prefer resin busts, but there are some great latex mask sculpts that aren't available as resin casts. I prefer working with enamel based paints too and have had a lot of problems with latex masks cracking or completely being destroyed by sunlight (all of my display area has skylights :thumbsdown).
What about resin coating the inside? Or painting on a layer of varnish? Was just thinking that maybe resin would soak into the latex, impregnate it and turn it solid?
Foam filling is probably your best bet, resin will degrade the latex over time, and if it gives of any heat while curing, can distort the latex, for latex display heads i allways suggest foam filling.
Kelly mann is probably your best person to ask for advice on filling http://www.maskdr.com/
