Reputable sellers list?

I started thinking about this because of the propworx auctions (which look awesome, but I'm not a Caprica fan)... Who are the reputable companies/people that sell screen used props on that-auction-site?

I'd love to build up a list of names (for myself, but if it would be of any use to others, I can create a list in this post) to check on that-auction-site. I notice a lot of the awesome stuff don't have easily recognizable tags in the Item titles like "screen used prop."

Who else do you all trust?

Until your familiar with the members of the screen used community, stick to PropStore, Screenused or Propmasters. I wouldn't even go to Premiere without asking a ton of questions and doing serious homework.
If you are buying direct from an individual or auction site, just ask around and search the forums to get feedback on the seller.

Does that somewhat answer your question?

That was helpful. It seems that folks also trust propworx's auctions. There must be similar sellers who primarily use the auction site who are trustworthy.

While I frequently browse propstore, i haven't looked at screenused or propmasters. So thanks for the suggestions :)

Propworx seems to be a great, they just seem to hang around Stargate, BSG and other stuff I could care less about.

screenused, and propstore dot com are THE best, period. You may know this, but really they are the best in the world.

Hi Guys. . .

I'm a total newbie to the hobby, and the board, so if I do anything really stupid. . . please be gentle.

It's sort of daunting to start off in the hobby and worry about fakes so this sort of list is exactly what I was looking for. I'm a little sad to see the list so short.

I've thought about ordering some things from Prop Store, but have been a bit concerned about the shipping costs, especially since I haven't seen a way to determine shipping before ordering. I understand and can appreciate why, but it's a little intimidating. Can anyone give me a super rough idea for shipping costs from Prop Store (England) to the US? Say a small thing. . . like a dish or something. . . is shipping that going to cost $20? $50? More? BTW: Am I the only one who keeps entering the wrong url for Prop store, ending up on a site that sells boat propellers (thepropstore.com)?

I've ordered a few Stargate things from Legends (stargateprops.com), they seem pretty legitimate to me -- they didn't make this list though, so should I be concerned?

Thank you in advance. . .

Jon

Jon,

Email Propstore and ask them anytime, I bought a helmet and shipping was $15-20. They are always willing to work with you on shipping costs.

I don't know anything about Legends

I've thought about emailing them, but I don't want to see like a fool, and wanted to at least have an idea of where the prices start. $15-20 for a helmet sounds very reasonable.

Thank you!

Jon

It never hurts to ask and the guys at the Prop Store are there to help and assist you. They are incredibly approachable, so don't hesitate to contact them.

I have not personally dealt with Prop Store, but I can tell you that reputable sellers and auction houses like them do not have a problem if you call and ask for estimated shipping. The larger businesses usually have facilities that make doing this for you pretty easy.

What better way to acquire and keep you as a customer? (resistance is futile!)

If you are worried, ask these questions:
1. cost of insurance
2. does the prop size/weight mean it should be handled by a special shipper or freighter? what is the cost of building a container if necessary? (this is for very large or heavy props, but good to know)
3. what are the per item handling fees? these fees cover things like custom boxes, packing supplies (you want the best!)

There are more, but I am still on my first cup o'tea

Pssst, when dealing w prop store, also ask for the best price. You'd be surprised how friendly a.d helpful they can be

Thank you! I've been posting on here for all of a few hours and you are already super friendly, helpful and supportive. I greatly appreciate it!
