I'm going to try and repaint my Vader chest armor for the ESB theme. I have an spfx helmet that I'd like to match as closely as possible. Can anybody please recommend a good match or brand of paint? Thanks,

John

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

well, unless you can get ahold of the movie used paints from VALSPAR, then the next best options are duplicolor spray cans, the T-100 black, and the T-177 gunmetal grey.

those are what i repainted my rubies armor with.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

I concur. That is what I used on my Rubies as well. Post pictures when you geta chance.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

a friend of mine on the SLD actually had found a site that you can get the black pearl and black paints from, in either cans, or he can put them in spray cans also.

its a bit pricey, but if your a accurate nut, then i would go to the SLD forums, and pm Darth Raizzar on the info. hes the one that run across it.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

You can find the Valspar paint here: http://www.redfroghobbies.com/
I didn't see it under paints and doing a search of their site produced no results.
Ah yes, that is right... forgot to say that Valspar is also known as Kustom Kolor. Sorry about that.

Is your helmet painted or raw?
helmet is painted.
Oh, I don't think you'll be able to match the Valspar/Kustom Kolor colors to his paint colors. Those are custom mixed colors and not similar to a store bought brand.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

It's sold under the name Kustom Kolor now search for that

Edit: Carsten was posting at same time :lol

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

Thanks. :) I don't need an exact match. As long as it's close to the helmet I'll be happy.

I wonder if I took the helmet to a paint store if they could use their computer thingy (technical term) to match the paint color he used. What do you guys think?

Might possibly work... though, I think it would be easier just to decide on the colors and then spray the helmet as well. Would also be cheaper, imo. Though... you can give the paint-matching thing a try.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

i agree with, just repainting the whole lid myself, unless the color match idea works.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

I doubt I'd repaint the lid as I spent a fortune on it and don't want to screw up what is already a nice looking paint job.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

I don't know if that is a wise idea, SPFX uses professional paints. Your not going to get the same level of quality with cheap store paints.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

maybe, but if you did use the valspar paints, thats just as good as spfx's pro paint. in fact, they were auto paint quality paint.

black pearl, and black gloss. i have a friend who found a guy that will sell the paints in either liqid type containers, or he will put the paints into spray cans, to use for you.

i have seen the results of that paint on his armor, and it looks right out of the movies.

basically, if you went with the Valspar paints, you would be just replacing a good quality paint with another good quality paint.

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

I found the duplicolor paints. I'm going to try them first. I see some shoulder bells that are all black and some have the grey. Which is correct for the ESB? Thanks,

John

Re: Repainting Vader armor question

You could always buy the Kustom Kolor paints and have a proffesional shop use those.
I'm not 100% sure but i doubt you can get an exact pantone match on metallic paints as they contain grains of metal also the viscosity of the paint will effect dispersment of those grains.
So you're best option would be to find out who painted the helmet and ask them what paint they used for an exact match or repaint the armour and the helmet
