Removing tarnish from a cheap eBay Legion Flight Ring?

I bought one of the $30 Legion Flight Rings from eBay to display with some of my other Superman items. Being the geek fanboy that I am, I wore it the day it came in the mail. :lol

I wore the ring for less than 4 hours and then put in away. The next day, the ring had tarnished. :confused

OK, I know, it was a cheap ring... what should I expect for $30? (I've also seen a $19 version, but thought that one was "cheap" and would probably arrive tarnished.)

I used some of my wife's jewelry polish and now I just have a shiny tarnished ring.

I'm not really interested in wearing it again. I really do just want to display it. I guess I could display it as "battle damaged" with the black tarnish...

Is there a way to remove the tarnish or has the "24 k gold plated" plating worn off?

I can take pics.

I didn't expect it to be real gold for $30, shipped from China.

I guess that the gold finish just rubbed off or wore off in the 4 hours I wore it.

Yeah, I'm thinking the plating just wore off (in 4 hours) of wearing.

I guess I'll just buy one of the cheap $19 ones for display.

I guess the only thing to do is put on a layer or two of top coat to keep the rest from rubbing off as well. Or rub and buff some more gold back onto it.

Was there any green or other discoloration on your finger from wearing it?

I use the polishing cloths you can get from the Wal-mart jewelry section for my silver bracelets and rings. You may wanna try one of those. I think they are like 3.50 if I remember right. Maybe Tarnx or CLR or brass polish? I list these because I already have them, but if you invest in all this stuff and it doesn't work it probably would be cheaper to invest in another ring.

Some stuff will tarnish just by sitting around, though. Maybe contact the seller and see what they use to polish if they have to.

I think Djinn is right. I think it's just very thin plating that rubbed off. There was no green areas on my finger. Like I said, I wore it for 4 ours or less.

I was just surprised that it wore off that quickly. I guess you get what you pay for.
