Removing masking tape residue

Hi everbody,

there's some sticky residue (from the masking tape) on my latest piece. What can I use to remove it, without demaging the paint job?

Thanks in advance,

Karin.

I usually use that stuff they sell at the chemist for removing sticky plaster / bandaid residue off of skin.
Lighter fuel works too the kind for Zippo petrol lighters.

I use Goo-Gone for all sticky residue clean up but test it out first.

Try using the blue painters tape. I never have a residue problem with it.

Thanks guys! that helped!

Next time I'll try the painters tape. I just grabbed some scotch tape I had lying aroud for this project. :(

You can always use the tape itself to 'blot' away whats left. Works sometimes and no need to buy another product.

WD-40 is also very good at removing sticky residues, but you will probably have to clean it with soap and water after wards...

Peanut butter... Seriously. My dad is a chef and he always uses peanut butter to take off tape residue from price stickers and such. The oils help break down the glue, and it takes it off without smelling chemically (though your prop will smell like peanut butter for a while). Just smear some on, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off.

I'm not sure how it will work with paint though. I did recently use it on a dining room table to take of some huge tape residue (don't ask) and there doesn't seem to be any harm to the table. Maybe try painting a scrap of the same material and trying it out.

Also fantastic for taking tree sap off car paint. (you'll have to wax it again, though)
