Removing clay with alcohol?

I'm currently building a retaining wall with chavant clay to make a silicone mold. I'm applying the clay over a piece that has already been painted and also has a layer of clear. When I take the clay off I'm left with a bit of a residue. What is the best way to clean that off? If I use rubbing alcohol will it dissolve the paint?
Keeping the original intact is a must.

Alcohol will affect the surface no doubt. Have you tired warm soap and water, a heat gun carefully used to loosen the residue or goof off from a bottle NOT THE AEROSOL. If all else fails a nice dusting of mold release should smooth the surface.

If you're going to use alcohol, make sure it isn't normal store bought 70% isopropyl (rubbing). If you can get your hands on it, use 99% isopropyl alcohol. Some computer stores like Fry's have it. It's used to clean electronics components, as well as cleaning up bits of clay, and smoothing and, and ... It's like $10 for 32 oz. Other places have it, but shipping charges can be mind boggling. Frends in Hollywood, or Burman Industries have and will ship, but charges will hurt. If you don't live in those areas with Fry's, check with large or industrial computer companies in your area. Or Google if those aren't options.
