remember when Nicolas Cage tried to be a serious actor...

His choice of film projects have certainly taken a nose dive in recent years.Of course exclusing "Kick Ass", but he had a small but important part.

Classic Cage flicks, well...the list is *small* for me.I can't hink of many besides these.

1.Raising Arizona
2.Wild at Heart-classic
3.Honeymoon in Vegas
4.Leaving Los Vegas-can't deney him the Oscar
5.I enjoyed Kick Ass,it was pretty darn good

I haven't seen this film in decades, but I remember his performance in "Birdy" being decent.

Mind you I was probably still a teenager at the time.

I will tell you, any actor who is continually working is doing a pretty decent job period. The film and acting industry is pretty rough on actors and he has been doing a good job of keeping himself in front of the lens. Say what you will about his work but anyone that keeps their career going and continues to build a fan niche should be admired to some extent. I am not a fan of all his works but I am a fan of many of his films.

I like Nic Cage in most of his movies. I mainly enjoy him in the "smooth/suave" type roles. You can't say he wasn't downright perfect in The Family Man

You've got to see him in Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call.

Here's the thing. Nic Cage isn't trying to be a good actor or a bad actor or a "serious" actor. He's doing something more interesting. As he says in various interviews:
"Then I went out and started talking about how if Picasso could paint surreal, why couldn't actors try to achieve that as well?"

"I've always had a fascination with the bizarre, the surreal, the Grand Guignol, the grotesque. I've always liked imperfections. I never really wanted to sell perfection."

MOONSTRUCK

"I almost got fired for trying to play my character - scripted as a young, romantic Italian guy -as the monster from Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast."

Nicolas Cage was great in KICK ASS, but unfortunately, I can't think of any other movies. I liked National Treasure, but it wasn't because of his acting...

I've enjoyed most of the Cage movies I've seen, but I also know when to stay away. I loved Matchstick Men, Lord of War, The Rock, National Treasure, and Drive Angry. That last one was a masterpiece, my friends and I loved the payoff at the end.

My favorite has to be kiss of death, I thought he was great in that and weather man is also a great film as well.
