Hi all!
I have been wanting to make my Reeve display look a little better for a while. The mannequin that I have is pretty skinny, and the wife wont let me buy a new one. I decided to see if I could beef him up a little bit with some stuff lying around the house. Being spandex, it was difficult to hide wrinkles and stuff. I ended up just carefully stuffing him in certain places with some old socks.
I also re-did the neckline of my cape. One of my pet peeves with replicas of the Reeve suit is that the neck and folds of the cape are never right. Most don't get it to sit on the shoulders of their display the way it sat on Reeve's shoulders in the movie. I made this cape myself a couple of years ago when I was disappointed with the Action Costumes one. I made it out of heave wool gabardine in the correct shade of red. It took a lot of reference photos and experimentation with scraps to get the pattern right. When I first made the neckline, it was straight across when laid out on the floor. After finding some screen used photos of an authentic cape laid on the floor, I decided to take mine apart and adjust it. I basically cut a scoop in the neckline giving it more of a curved shape. This helped it lie better on the shoulders and look more like the screen version. Below are some after shots.
