Red Skull mask - New year, new build

This is a cool build. Fun to watch. Wish I had your talent, trust me when I say I have not artistic abilities, lol.

I think you can use paste wax, or universal mold release. Then again Im not sure. Sorry about that man. Sculpt looks good though.

Using Ease Release 200. Maybe I didn't use enough. But everything I have read says not to over use it. Maybe I took that too seriously. I don't know. I'll use a bit more when I make the mold for the back two parts.

Either way I will be cleaning a lot of clay out of the mold. If I can even get the sculpt out that is.

Made the first back piece. Used a LOT more mold release.

The clay wall came off a bit easier. However where the plastic wall of the back is meeting the front seems to be completely fused together. I'm not sure this is going to work at all now.

Tomorrow I'm going to take my Dremel and cut off the rough edges and see if it will even be possible to separate them before I make the other back piece.

Hey man, any updates?

Not really. I've been too busy on the weekends for the past month or so to really have time to finish the mold. I'm hoping this weekend I can get back to it and see if I have any luck separating the mold. I'll post pics as soon as I do.

Sounds good. I was thinking of you because I was going to make my mold tonight, I finished the sculpt last night. I was kind of pissed off though, I got some crystal clear spray to seal the clay, and it ate away some of my texture! I was wondering if it was cause it was rust oleum as opposed to Krylon...

Stupid stuff came up last night so I didnt get to make the mold. Got everything ready, and my grandmas car broke down in my drive way after she was dropping off a beer tap she got for me. =( I want to do it tonight, but Im going to hit the gym, then go to dinner with some friends so I might not be able to get to it til this weekend.

Thank you for asking though. Ill update you on what Im doing. Im just going to make a mold of the front part of the face, and attach that to a lycra hood that Im going to wear because I was kind of sketch on the whole full head process. Ill let you know how it turns out. Hopefully it looks ok!

Looking good so far. Molding is always the worst part of this process. A tip for the future, you should always add registration keys to the flange of the mold walls, just to make sure everything will line up correctly in the end. Excited to see the first pull from this. :cheers

Here goes nothing...

Crap! I seem to have misplaced my other tub of plasti paste. Been turning the place upside down.

Looks like that piece will only have one layer. I put it on pretty thick. I just hope it holds up when I try to take it apart.
