This looks great, youve made a massive step from the first lot of photos to where you are now! im going to have to watch this movie again, looking forward to seeing your progress :thumbsup subscribed.

thanks!! ive got so many different photo album files I have to go thru each one to find my progress shots. more photo's tonight.....;)

thanks guys. I used an old baseball helmet as the base. then made a very crude poster board mock up and covered it in 2' clear tape. then the bondo, after it cooled I was able to pull the board and b.b. helmet out. then a whole lotta dremel work. 2015-02-24 00.29.29.jpg 2015-02-24 00.30.29.jpg 2015-02-24 00.29.54.jpg 2015-02-24 00.31.22.jpg 2015-02-24 13.45.19.jpg 2015-02-24 13.45.40.jpg 2015-02-24 13.46.01.jpg 2015-02-25 15.38.37.jpg 2015-02-25 21.21.27.jpg 2015-02-25 21.22.16.jpg 2015-02-25 21.22.34.jpg

Your sculpt looks great! Very impressive work.

You said you removed the baseball helmet, so is the thing entirely made of Bondo then? If so, I am doubly impressed, but be careful with it. Bondo is not the strongest stuff. It'll shatter if it gets dropped. Are you planning on molding it? A fiberglass or urethane casting would be much more durable. I'd hate to see your nice work crumble from a simple mishap.

thanks for the positive comments guys. yes it is completely sculpted from bondo! I absolutely love the stuff. the "greeblies" are cast resin, I waited till they set up enough to pull from the clay and gently layed them in position on the primered helmet to get a proper curve to the helmet.

this is were its at now. ive got some magnet's for the neck ring and have a crude mockup for the amber face shield. just need to figure out were to get plastic, and the easiest way to make one. thanks again for your comments and for looking everyone!! 2015-02-26 17.58.24.jpg2015-02-26 17.59.49.jpg2015-02-26 18.00.55.jpg2015-02-26 18.02.37.jpg2015-02-26 18.03.46.jpg 2015-04-11 14.09.11.jpg2015-04-11 14.09.33.jpg2015-04-11 14.10.11.jpg2015-04-11 14.10.34.jpg2015-04-11 14.11.03.jpg2015-04-11 14.08.45.jpg added plastic vented mesh to the rear, and black mesh to the front accent pieces.

thanks man! it was alotta fun. ive got magnets im gonna use to hold the neck ring pieces together and mount to the helmet. the hard part is gonna be making the colored visor...:facepalm

Hi Funboy
Your helmet look great, are you going to do the half helmet as well?
Did you know one of the screen used helmets came up on Ebay last year. It had the back cut out so the camera could get in and give the point of view of someone inside the suit
Did you also know that the space suit were custom made for each actor in the U.S. and then brought down here filming

thanks guys, :$ GaryArm, ive gotta finish this one first, then I want to do the chest/back armour. I own "some" production suit parts. board member RAVEN has a full RED PLANET suit, he helped me a friggin TON with photo's and measurements. great guy and friend!! we also have been researching other R.P. tool's and trying to i.d. them. :p

thanks! its a total labor of love. as posted before I bounce around to different project's. im stuck on the helmet until I can figure a way to make the amber visor. I cant find any plastic close enough to invest in practicing. I might have to use clear plastic and then dye it. ive seen a couple people do visors here and they look really good.
