Red Dwarf Papercraft (Pep) props

see you changed it now Ace gets the credit he deserves "what a guy"
anyway back on topic
anyone want a skutter as bad as i do ?
i need more free time or we need another 3d modeler to help out detachable toe
also i hope detachable toe notices my post up there ^ about bazookoid etc

@Detachabletoe...Great progress on Kryters suit... It's like he's slowly coming alive, :lol

@Paperjon A Skutter or two would be great...But which version?

I'd say classic series, rather that the last two series

@paperjon: I don't really know if I'd ever fully sign off on any of these being ready, as I can't say they're accurate.

I estimated the bazookoid to be roughly 90-100 cm long, and I believe I modelled it with small enough faces for that scale. If I haven't, tell me where you need extra mesh density, and I'll be happy to fix it up.

As for uvs and a texture, it'll have to wait a bit, I've still got Krytens suit to do, and tweaking/retexture of his head.

A light bee should be simple I'd imagine, but really I've no idea what it looks like. References? A skutter shouldn't be impossible either. Though, I'm a bit busy at the moment :p

@Jixton: Thanks. I've never done something like this before, hopefully they'll actually fit someone heh.

@DetachableToe hey, its ok there is no rush on anything and its up to you what you do.I will see what i can do for scutter/ lightbee references. When i get morefree time i should be able to help you with modelling :)
@madmax "smoke me a kipper" what is stoke me a clipper what does that even mean lol

anyway back on topic im gonna try free up some time soon to do more work on this for you guys :)

@ DetachableToe...I agree with Paperjon....Take your time, as when things get rushed, they become..errr..Cr*p!! You get alot better results, the more time you take to perfect it.
Like an artist...Never truly happy, and forever tweaking...:lol

@Paperjon... I think Madmax is refering to the series 7 episode, where Ace Rimmer handed the baton over to our dimension Rimmer, to continue the reign of Ace, and he screws up the catchphrase by saying: " Stoke me a clipper, I'll be back for Christmas" instead of saying: " Smoke me a Kipper, I'll be back for Breakfast!"

BACK ON TOPIC!

I think all guys involved in this project, are legends...Years from now, people will still be making models from your pep files, and they'll be an explosion of RD props appearing on the boards, and out at events...And you can all stand proud as being the guys who made that possible!!

Wish I could model in 3D software... or unfold .OBJ files in pep...I'd love to contribute more than I do, but lack the skills to do so :(

Keep up the great work, guys!

@Jixton i actually feel like i have smeg for brains now cant believe i forgot that sorry madmax i meant no offense anyway was only joking about

As for what you said about this project Jixton i agree and your part of it as is everyone who posts useful material on this thread its not how much people contribute its the fact they want to do the best they can to contribute

Awesome thread! Seems like I've been waiting forever for project cutter to release some files...
If you guys need any help, I have the pepakura software for unfolding the models, though limited experience using it.

@Jixton lol
@Conqueror_Worm welcome to the paper place of the small rouge one

if anyone can find reference material for a light bee it would be a great help as im trying to free up some time to model it as DetachableToe has enough to do lol :D

[from the song "Tongue-Tied," sung by Cat, Rimmer and Lister]
When I saw you for the first time (first time)
My knees began to quiver (quiver)
And I got a funny feeling (feeling)
In my kidneys and my liver (digestive system baby)
My hands they started shakin' (shakin')
My heart began a-thumpin' (boom, boom, boom)
My breakfast left my body (huey, huey, huey)

sorry stuck in my head lol

@ Paperjon.. And now it's stuck in my head!!!!:lol:rolleyes

Sorry for the lack of updates everyone, I've been having some troubles with my (new :angry) computer. Hopefully I won't take too long to fix it, but until then, I'm afraid I'll be needing to take a break. The good news is, I can't have a broken pc forever (or can I? eep)

@paperjon: I'm all for doing some more things after Kryten and my pc issues. Great song too. I always liked the music cues for the observation deck as well.

@Jixton: Thanks for the kind words. Give 3d a try, Blender is free. You never know, you might be a natural :)

@DetachableToe... Gorden Bennett!!! I've tried Blender, Poser, Maya and a fourth I've currently forgotten the name off... All confused the hell out of me, talking about polygons and nurbs and such what....
It doesn't help that I have Dyspraxia, a form of Dyslexia.... So my brain learns differently to the standard teaching methods.
It's why I like working in 3D with my hands.. :)

As for breaking a PC forever..... Only if you take it swimming, of skydiving without a parachute!!
Most parts can be replaced, or upgraded... but I must stress that you backup all files, at least once a week in triplicate, especially when new files are created, or changed, just in case of hard-drive failures.
Something, I've suffered more than once in my 12 years of owning my own PC

@DetachableToe hey sorry to hear about your pc hope you get it fixed soon :D
@Jixton i have Dyspraxia and standard Dyslexia i found blender hard to learn at first but you just need to find the right resource i used this and still do :D
@Conqueror_Worm thanks for lightbee references

I'm back, sorry for the delay. To kick things off again, have some light bees :)

@Jixton: I'd love to do some 3d work away from the computer, unfortunately I've no room at the moment.

As for the computer, it turned out to be some faulty ram. I do backup files, though no where near as often as I should.

@Conqueror_Worm: Thanks for the screenshots. Muchly appreciated.

@paperjon: Tell me if these models need any changes. I didn't bother with uv's or textures as they're all fairly simply coloured.

@DetachableToe welcome back! Lightbee`s look great i like season 6 best but we will see what others say i will unfold any of these as they are all great but could be tricky to build .... oh well lol
Just thought i would ask something you said you use blender was just wondering how you remove the internal geometry so perfectly as i prefer to use blender for most things and havent found a good way to do it with blender yet if you could tell me that would be great
If anyone wants to texture these it would be very much appreciated as my fiancée wont build white models lol and if im honest im bad with textures i usually get someone else on our team involved for textures im learning but slowly problem is noone on our team likes red dwarf :(
i will still unfold if noone textures but it would be truely awesome if someone does
additional note not very sure these will be able to build life sized but me and my fiancee will try our best :) i will make the unfold as simple as possible by using her testbuilds to make changes :)
