Just as the title says, I am looking for some websites that have human hair wigs. Places you have used before or place that have been recommended to you.

Thanks in advance!

I'd be interested in any information too, but in the meantime what I planned on doing is going to my local theater community and speak with the hair person about custom making a human hair wig. My sister is involved with some of the theater production companies around here and thought it may be a possible outlet for getting something made. Also considered the theater dept at an arts college.

Male or female? Here are some online sources:

This place has a large selection, but I consider them a bit over-priced.

Also very expensive, but generally excellent customer service:

A discount place - I find they often are out of stock of things they say they have:

Another:

Huge selection for women:

Most online wig places have very little for men, almost no HH wigs for men. Men's wigs are like women's shoes: grossly overpriced.

Good luck!

The only real difference between men's and women's wigs is that men's tend to come a little larger. As long as you don't have a abnormally large melon, you should fit into a women's wig just fine. I have a 23 1/2" noggin, and I barely fit into my wig. I could stand to let it out, but it works in a pinch.

I've often used wigs from www.wigamerica.com with good result. Their human hair wigs are inexpensive and fairly decent. However, they do require a wholesale account to shop with them, but they do provide a link for an outside retailer that you can buy from.

human hair wigs are great looking only if made right. Otherwise might as well buy a sythetic. NOW...if u realy want a good "movie" quality wig...go with human hair lace front wig. It will have the look of a real hairline. These are avaialabe at good places, even ebay has them. Many times u can buy a woman's lace from human hair wig and have it cut and styled to ur specs. Since it's human hair u can cut, style, curl etc just like human hair!

Good add. I came back to edit my post to talk about lace fronts, but you beat me to it. :wacko

It should be noted, however, that you can have a lace front added to a wig if you know someone who can do it.

Thanks so much! :thumbsup

Anyone else?

Yeah, I noticed men's wigs were like $200 more than women's wigs of the same length. I have a small head, so I was looking in the women's category. Either way, I know it will have to be cut for my needs.

Do I need to worry about front lace if the wig has bangs? Also, how can you tell if it is front laced or not?

Looking for something like this:

I wouldn't say the lace front is a neccessity because of the bangs. If it bothers you, you could always get one put in as a future upgrade. Be sure you get a wig with bangs and the right amount of curl. The bangs are important because unless you want to spend the big bucks on a mono top, the rubber skin tops will only want to go the direction they already exist in.

A lace front looks like this:

Its hard to see, but there's a very light hint of lace around the frame of the face. Also note how the hair is tied into the hairline so it looks like it is actually growing out of the forehead.

for that kind of wig, u may get away without a lace front, but know that the better the wig, the more realistic it wil be. Also, it is very difficult restyling a synthetic wig, so human hair is essential. I buy womens real hair lace fronts and have my stylist cut color and style it for me. I buy one that is long and by the time its done looks amazing.

I am currently thinking about the wig that I have attached. Do you think I can achieve Merry's (that's the costume I will be working on) hairstyle with that wig? Or is the part in the wig going to be an issue?

It might be okay as the hair does tend forward. I imagine your options are a bit slim since I don't think bangs are very popular with curls of that magnitude.

You could try taking those images to a stylist and see if they can achieve that look on that wig.

I just didn't want to drop down $100+ on a wig that I cannot return...or possibly sell.

I might have to take that risk.

is that a synthetic wig or real hair? Can't tel. If it is human hair, then they could probably restyle it. Synthetic...no way. It is heat set to be that way.

They says it's human hair.

I appreciate the link, but I was looking for human hair. Synthetic wigs look..well synthetic. Especially with flash photos taken at cons.

There's a little bit of misinformation here. Not all synthetic wigs will look synthetic or are unstyleable, and not all natural hair wigs will style easily.

Some synthetics are of really good quality and, once styled, will look very good. They will style, they just take a bit more elbow grease to do so. There are also special measures one must take to style a synthetic wig. They do not style like real hair. Natural wigs do style easier because you treat them like real hair because they are real hair... However, the top front of the wig can be problematic in some cases. there are two types of wig caps (the structure underneath that supports the hair). You have monotop and skintop. Monotop is where the whole wig cap is laced that has hair tied into it and are the more expensive of the two. These are aso the type used for lace front wigs. Skin tops have a section of rubber in the front of the wig cap, over the forehead. The hair is punched into this rubber and sometimes can be difficult to change the part on. This isn't to say it is impossible. Sometimes hitting it with a hair dryer will soften the rubber enough to make it bend to your will.

My Dracula wig is a skin top. I don't yet have a lace front on it because the top hat eliminates the need for one for the time being. The thing about the skin top wigs though is that you can always convert them to monotop. a wig maker can cut the rubber top out and add a lace section in its place just like they can add a lace front to an exixting wig.

Call the wig company for that wig you posted and ask questions about it. Ask if the part can be manipulated on it. If it will handle bangs, etc...
