Re: "Official" RPF recasting/stealing ideas post?
I should clarify my position.
I'm not suggesting protecting an "idea" or calling dibs on a given prop is a good idea. An open and competitive market is a good thing!
I was mainly giving a nod that I'm indeed against the whole reverse engineering thing and agree it's equal to recasting.
I think we should also take a look at drafting on other members runs.
Drafting (yes, my term) is when someone sees a popular run in progress and then announces that they're selling the same item, too! The problem is, they've got nothing to sell and in most cases don't even have a prototype to show.
This forces the established builder to defend themselves against a product and/or pricing of an item that doesn't even exhist!
There's a bit of a trend to simply "Say" an item is in the works in an effort to fish in the same pond as the other guy.
Again. Nothing wrong with that provided the offer was already in the works, but all too often these things are talked to death on the RPF and it simply confuses the new guys.
I admit it would be a complex situation to police. I'd prefer a little honor among thieves so perhaps an official stance that it's at least "frowned Upon" here may be a good first step.
