Hello all!
I've always wanted to do Vader, but was always very intimidated by the differences between the versions. My personal favorite for a long time was ROTS Vader, mainly because i liked the cleaner, symmetric look of the helmet. Then i saw the renders of the Rebels Vader...and it just blew me away. I loved the mix of the Macquairie design and the ANH, with the symmetry of ROTS. This and the fact that the face actually resembles that of Anakin's.
I got on board the Reelprops / Rocketeer helmet run. And i commissioned Hass Dardo to model the armor for me. Serendipity led me to Studio49 on the CTN and he modeled the chest box greeblies for me in exchange for one of my Microseries Phase 2 Fordo buckets. I had a friend model and print the rest of the Chest box.
So far, I've roughed out the armor pieces and they are with my fiberglass guys for surface finishing prior to moldmaking (between filling orders for sets of FOTKs, FO tie pilots, and Phasma). Here are pics of Hass Dardo's render:
I've also begun work in the amazing Reelprops/Rocketeer helmet:
Here it is out of the box:
Here i did the minor mods to make a bit more screen accurate: hollowing out the nose and dremelling the slots in the cheeks. Before doing the mods i reinforced the areas with some epoxy putty just in case i dremeled all the way through the resin.
Installing a helmet liner to get it to sit correctly took several tries:
Making the keys for the dome attachment:
And here it is on my head:
I just finished painting it and tomorrow i'll be installing the lenses and mesh. I'll be checking out the prototype armor masters on tuesday.
