Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.....SPACEMARINE

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

Hey all, I'm still at it, albeit very, very slowly.

Ok...where I'm at ? Well I have about 3/4 of the armour pieces fibreglassed, I haven't had any time at all to finish glassing the remaining parts. :( Hopefully once the whole X-mas thing is out of the way I should be able to find a weekend or two to finish the glassing stage.

Meanwhile I have been thinking to myself "how the hell am I going to bog all this ?"

1. It's going to take a crap load of bog due to the size of the polygons in the pep. And 2. I ****in' hate sanding bog........with a passion!!!!!!

So I thought "why not skin it with something". Now what to use, well after reading a few of the foam builds it dawned on me....FOAM.

Found some 5mm thick foam at the local hardware store and some 2 and 3mm foam at a art store and away I went.

Started with the thighs.

The upper arm pieces.

A fore arm piece.

And started on one of the boots.

The ends of each piece still need to be skinned but I need to work out how to web all the parts up yet, I may have to cut the ends yet to web it all together.

I'm pretty happy with "skinning" it this way, like I said I hate bogging and sanding with a passion and I think I have more of a chance finishing this costume using this method.

Ah well till next time.............

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

your doing very well for your first attempt. one question. will you fit in that? its freakin huge!

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

How did you skin that with foam? heat gun shape in and glue on?

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

Great job, this is a really cool build, I never would have thought to use foam around the pep, hope to see more

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

I am liking this build a lot. Are you planning on trying to wear the suit or is is it just for display?. either way its awesome.

It's great! Better than y first pep. In fact I have a hard time moving beyond the pep ing. What does fiberglass ing entail and what foam do you use? I am looking for brand names to look for.

Thanks and great job again!

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

Woa, Nice job! Is it for you..since it looks a little bit big?

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

Hey all, thanks heaps for all the encouraging words. :)

A few have asked is this going to be worn as a costume, the answer is yes (well that's the plan at least ;) ).

Here is a picture of my friend who is building a SM as well, his pep is scaled at the same scale as mine.

The only difference between his and mine is his cod/butt piece is scaled slightly smaller, apart from that one piece all the other parts are the same size as mine.

So you can see that it is wearable, just have to get the webbing and support right.

@Daysprinxo...re.What does fibreglassing entail ? What I did with mine was pep the piece then give the outside of it a coat of resin, when that was dry I fibreglassed the inside. I used a matt of chopped strand which I ripped into pieces about 4x4inches, coated them in resin and stuck them to the inside of the armour making sure to overlap each bit and then pressed out the air bubbles by dabbing a paint brush soaked in resin on to the glass matting.

The foam is the eva foam matts that all the Iron Man builders seem to use, you can get thinner stuff as well, I think they are called "FOAMIES" in the US.

@Rinzler...I didn't use a heat gun to form the foam I just glued down one edge and wrapped it around and glued down the end. I did have to cut out "wedges" and pull the foam together in places. In the picture I posted of the single thigh piece you can see where I have cut the foam at the top and bottom and then rejoined it to fit.

Cheers.

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

It's been hard to find time to work on this but over a few weekends I have managed to get a little done.

I knocked together a couple of "lifts" for the shoes and installed them, added some "normal" size shoes and BAM ! ....I can walk around in them now.

Added some rubber to the sole to stop any slipping.

I also "skinned" the helmet. :)

I have all the fibreglass work done as well now so I can start working out how to webb and pad out the legs.

Gettin' there.....slowly but surely. :)

Till next time...............................

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

This is your first try at pep?
Wait till you see my first attempt, yours will look like Picasso.

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

this is looking great, I love what you did with the pep and the foam... I just may have to steal your idea!

now the most important question is what Chapter are you going to make your space marine?

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.

Very very cool. I think when I get some time, I need to try something like this out.

Re: My 1st attempt at a Pep costume.
