Re-make of "Dune"

I appreciate the responses/explanation and it’s something that I can forgive for the sake of it being important to the actual narrative and not a situation like Legolas’ eyes in the Hobbit where it was just an aesthetic choice.

I suspect we'll get a digital effect. It's certainly possible to do the effect physically, but full sclera contacts aren't very fun to wear in my experience, and I wasn't doing an outdoor shoot in 120 degree weather. They can also lead to some pretty nasty complications unexpectedly. Even if there's only, say, a .05% chance of an edema, no studio wants to be the one that accidentally blinded Timothee Chalamet or Zendaya.

There's an on-set photo of Denis with Javier Bardem who plays Stilgar and has normal eyes, so definitely post prod ibad eyes.

The Eyes being blue is a sign of spice addiction... and everyone on Arrakis is addicted to spice since its literally unavoidable there.

No for the movie - I am very optimistic that it will be well done... I hope they expand on the book a bit though - giving bore backstory to the Emporer/Harkonen/Atredies/rest of the landsraad relationship along with some clues about the Bene gesserit and the spacing guild. without that backstory the book kinda jumps in and explains that stuff as "o by the way" references that inform the reader - but would not work well in a movie. I thought "some" of the things done in the SyFy mini-series went a good way towards that - but it was a bit clumsy kinda stuffed in the middle of the story... I think that the movie should start a bit before the "move" and show the plot hatching to provide context to move and why its a trap. then when it hits the fan the veiwer will understand how messed up this is...

Good point. All adaptations struggled with that. Lynch had to add the scene with the Emperor and the navigator, the extended edition had the awkward prologue with the paintings and the Syfy version just had people awkwardly popping in, sometimes on recorded messages to give exposition. Reminded me when Nick Cage said in Wild at Heart "thanks for bringing my snakeskin jacket. Did you know that this is the symbol of my individuality and my belief in personal freedom?". That's not how you weave in exposition to a story.
Villeneuve is fantastic in visual storytelling, but Incan't really see these political intricacies represented visually. Curious as to how successful he's gonna be.

Yea the book has that huge glossary in the back to explain all the setting specific terms and backstory elements. It's tough to spell all that out in a movie

well I think how you do it is by pulling a bit of story that is implied and spoken of in the books and actually show it. Some type of meeting of the Landsraad where Leto scores big- making the emperor take note, followed by him telling his mentat that he wants a super secret meeting with the Baron, perhaps overheard by a Bene Gesserit that then in turn makes plans to visit Paul, and talks about the breeding program being in jeopardy if Jessica dies and hasn't produced a girl to wed to the Harkonnens. Something like that (done way better than my explanation obviously) to give the audience a clue... Basically a bit of story just before the book starts, to show who the players are, before we get to totally screwing the Atreides.

Tbf I thought Irulan's voiceover kinda worked in Lynch's but hardly anyone uses that device anymore. Lord of the Rings only used it at the beginning. Then again LOTR did exactly what you describe here.

A few pics of the different covers of Empire magazine.

AAHhhhhh, well now I at least have a better idea why the battle armor has wrist protection; it's where they're gonna put their shield emitters, rather than stash the prop down on the belt line.

I really like Brolin in the still suit too. still really digging it all.

I'm hoping that the upcoming "dragon con" weekend gets us some more trailers for things, including Dune.

I imagine there were at least a couple releases and stories slated to drop that weekend.

Latest word from WB is that there's a teaser attached to some showings of Tenet starting on 8/31, and there's a full(er) teaser trailer coming on September 9. We'll see. There are leaked pictures from the Tenet teaser, and everything looks pretty great.

I suppose I am the only person who has never gotten into Dune. I saw the movie. My brother read the books and kept telling me how great they were. I got through about 3/4 of the first book and thought "this is the most boring thing I have ever read!"

I know, kill me. Sacrilege, right? Over the decades I have tried on three separate occasions to read it. Just can't get into it. The story itself just doesn't interest me.

I know, I know.....why am I even here? .....Sorry.

Meh, You're fine. Not all sci-fi is for all people. Dune was a very influential book to the rest of modern sci-fi, but there are plenty of "influential" bands, movies, and books that I don't care for, while still loving the movies, books, and bands that were heavily inspired by them.

I mean, have you seen the Atreides battle armor? That's reason enough for anyone to come to the thread.

Yea. I would imagine so. you can see it on her in one of the older shots too. She's crouching down in a group or something and it's on her leg. I think that's the same hilt/sheath.
