I've posted this build on my Facebook and on The Dented Helmet, and after WizardWorld Philly this past weekend, and after my brother's encouragement to do so I figured I'd post it here too. I'm just very shy to post on these boards since I don't consider myself anywhere close to the same league as some of the amazing artisans on this meaage board)
My Girlfriend has wanted a Rav Bralor/ Vhonte Tervo costume for some time since she first saw the Tom Hodges art in the Star Wars Insider and then the Action figure. When we first started dating sh told me about this costume and I said I'd help her make it. In fact our first date I made the templates for the leg armor and bent the plastic. For Christmas I told her I would finish the costume for the big Con here in Philadelphia. Work went slow for a while, and in the last two months I ramped it up and got it all done. It made its debut this past weekend. All she had was a flightsuit, Bradley fett shoulders, and helmet. She bought the boots later on, and everything else was made by me. I fabricated the armor, dyed and hand stitched the leather parts, made the pistols, sewed the armor vest and cape and modified the flightsuit, sculpted /molded /cast the gauntlets myself, and did all the painting and weathering. What you see is a costume that I am extremely happy with having made, she absolutely loves (couldn't get her out of the thing over the weekend), and is even enthusiastically approved by Tom Hodges himself! ( he was at the con and sent his assistant running after Kristi to bring her to the table to look it over and get photos with her! Signed the helmet even!)
Before I get to the photos I will go ahead and preface this thread with this request: THIS THREAD IS NOT TO BE A PLATFORM FOR ARGUMENTS ABOUT EU MANDOS BEING ACCEPTED AS OFFICIAL 501st COSTUMES OR OTHER SENTIMENTS TOWARDS THE 501st!
The costume was built for the love of the costume, and having two letters in front of her ID number will not make her enjoyment of the costume any greater. 8) That being said, it was amusing when Tom Hodges said the suit should be accepted into the legion and he would write a letter of recommendation to that effect (he said this on his own, she said nothing more than the fact that we were 501st members)
Enough gum-flapping on my part, let me get to the pics- I know its what you guys want
Here's a sampling of the build pictures. I was going for an Idealized version of the character. The goal was to build a realistically done costume, based more off the action figure (to anchor it in the 'Fett' styling family, thus why there is esb fett stitching on the vest shoulders), but adding in a few details from the art by Tom (some panels on the gauntlets). The gauntlets were sculpted from scratch, molded in Rebound 25, and cast in Smooth-On resin. The leg and back armor was made out of Sintra. The chest armor was actually made from a plastic torso mannequin. The cylinders on the belt are R2 ankle cylinders because I believe to make something look like it belongs in the Star Wars Universe you need to reuse a detail piece seen somewhere else on the screen (that and I had sculpted the ankle cylinder out of pvc pipe and it seemed to fit the bill for the belt cylinders, lol)
