Interest Raiders Smith and Wesson M1917 Replica

They audited the votes which is ridiculous considering that they allowed multiple entries of the same guns. They also never stipulated any rules about multiple votes, never gave an end date to the poll, and never made any promises about producing a single piece from the suggestions.

If you're serious about customer feedback and want a pulse on the demand for a new product you'd assume a long established business would set parameters in their polling to get accurate data.

Given how disorganized this whole thing is, it begs the question as to what was the intention behind this if they aren't beholden to make any of it. Is there a genuine move to develop new product, or is it a ploy to draw in new customers with the false promise of potentially having a say in the new products?

There's a lot of money on the table for them to make the Bapty and Webley because collectors are worldwide so they aren't limited to a certain replica really only catering to the market of only a few countries.

This is one of two responses I got after contacting them directly:

"Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our products.

The list of suggestion has not limit date. It is the place where we want to give the chance to our customers to leave their preferences.

Well, the suggestions section in our website is a tool for us to have the pulse of the global market regarding the most demanded items.

Of course we take note about the most popular, but also they must be a reliable piece. And it also must have a good selling expectative in a wide range our markets. (not only for a certain country, for example)

We try to include something new in our catalog every year. But it depends on the models; quantity of molds, and how long they take us to develop. (for example, it is not the same to design a letter opener, or an axe, than a submachine gun)

Best regards
Jaime"

Received this reply from Denix when I questioned their reset of the vote:

Clarification on Vote Count for Suggested Replicas

Dear friends and fans,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us and for your enthusiasm in supporting the production of the Smith & Wesson from Indiana Jones and the Webley WGreplicas.

We would like to clarify that our voting system allows one vote per IP addressfor replicas that are already listed in our voting section. As for new replica suggestions, they can be proposed only once, and if the model is already included in our system, additional suggestions are not counted as votes. To actively vote for a model, it is necessary to use the designated voting button.

We deeply appreciate the support you and your community are showing for these models. We would love to feature your campaign on our blog to recognize your dedication. If you would like to share photos of your reenactment group, we would be delighted to dedicate a post highlighting your efforts to promote these iconic replicas.

Additionally, we encourage you to register any of your reenactment events on our DENIX FRIENDLY POINTS MAP, where history enthusiasts can discover and participate in your activities.

Once again, we sincerely appreciate your commitment and interest in our historical replicas. If you have any further questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

I had a bit of curiosity when first went to the voting page and was able to vote without supplying any other information (such as a login, email, account creation, etc). I also run on a VPN, so nothing was being tracked or tied to my actual IP address either.

Just as Psab keel said, a pretty poorly organized setup to say the least for voting. I am not a tech mastermind, but I could easily spoof 1000 votes for one of the suggestions (each with a unique IP address) in a few hours by myself. I would almost EXPECT some fans to do that automatcally lol.

I guess another fan reached out and they got a better response from Denix with more clear answers to how they set up the polling and why it was audited.

It still doesn't excuse how poorly it's been implemented as they never said you couldn't vote more than once. Some polls allow you to vote daily. Some are tracked. Some aren't. If you can't be clear with people from the outset about how it works it can get messy real fast.

I've already had two fans passive-aggressively scold me in defense of Denix choice and totally disregard the obvious flaws of the execution, but that's just further confirmation that I need to stop getting involved with fandoms who side with corporations over their peers. Anyhoo....

Denix is well aware of the demand now and it's seriously considering Indy props. I hope it happens but it won't be for a year or more if the report is to be believed.

I hope it happens.

HI GUYS, THAT'S THE ANSWER I GOT TODAY FROM DENIX!

Dear Dan,

First of all, we would like to thank you for your kind words and for your dedication to supporting our replica models. It’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm from passionate Indiana Jones fans like yourself!

Regarding your questions:

1. Voting Process:
The voting system is open and operates continuously, allowing votes for existing proposals as well as new suggestions for models not yet listed. Please note that if a proposed model is already in the voting list, additional submissions for that model will not count as votes. We recommend searching the list first to avoid duplicate proposals.

2. Selection Criteria:
Each year, we use this list as a guide to decide on new models, typically considering the top 10 to 15 models. However, we also take into account other important factors such as production complexity, timeline, and cost, since we work with casting molds.

3. Production Timeline:
Once a model is approved for production, it can take up to 12 months before it becomes available in stores.

4. Indiana Jones Collection:
Your suggestion for an Indiana Jones-themed collection is incredibly interesting, and we promise to seriously consider it for future development.

5. Voting Concerns:
Regarding your concern about the Smith & Wesson M1917 (BAPTY) and the Webley WG Army, we’d like to clarify what happened. Our voting system is designed to ensure fair participation, allowing one vote per IP address for each existing model. While we highly value community involvement, we recently identified that a significant number of votes for these two models were invalid because they resulted from duplicate entries or repeated proposals rather than genuine votes made through the official voting button. To maintain fairness for all participants, these duplicate entries were removed, which impacted the vote counts. We assure you that this action was solely intended to preserve the integrity of the voting process and was not meant to disregard the strong interest in these models. We absolutely recognize the enthusiasm for the Smith & Wesson M1917 and the Webley WG Army, and their presence at the top of the list didn’t go unnoticed. As mentioned earlier, we carefully review the top-ranked models each year when deciding on new production plans, and these two models will certainly be considered.

Lastly, we would love to hear more about your activities as Indiana Jones reenactors! If you’re willing to share some photos and stories about your group, we would be delighted to feature your efforts on our DENIX BLOG. Additionally, if you organize any events, we encourage you to register them on our DENIX FRIENDLY POINTS MAP for greater visibility.

Thank you once again for your support and dedication. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Best regards,
DENIX

It would have been nice to know their parameters up front, no question. Either way we got their attention. So the voting achieved that end.

Though I'm glad you got solid answers and it sounds promising, Dan. Thanks for your letter. It helped tremendously. :) the responses I got were super vague.

Well, even multiple votes from single parties still represents an enthusiasm for one model over another. Presumably, collectors who wanted the other offerings on that list could've done the same thing. I'm sure Denix recognizes this and we'll surely still get the Indy replicas regardless.

I’d still like to see a metal version of the WG. The current Denix Webley is close, but not quite accurate enough

I want a metal WG too, though the MK VI Webley Metal airsoft guns are closer in size and profile to the WG than the Denix offering.
