Radioactive Waste Prop

Hello all,
I'm looking for a little help from you professionals.
At least a nudge in the right direction... I'm new at this.
I'm an entertainer, mostly balloon sculpting and magic for private events, but I've been thinking about putting together an act for comedy clubs to travel around with.
Before you all think that my desire is to be a prop comic and I've come here for ideas, let me say strongly that this is not the case.
I need help with building a single prop. One that I think could be a good item to have in my trunk for dealing with the inevitable heckler.
I'd like to build some fake radioactive waste.
The scene I have envisioned in my mind goes a little something like this... Some drunk jerk makes a few loud comments, and I feel that he's likely to continue.
I explain that I have something that I brought with me just for him. I put on large safety gloves and goggles, pull out a container that is clearly labeled RADIOACTIVE WASTE. I walk the case gingerly to the hecklers table and place it in front of him. I smile, open the box, and places a pulsing and glowing rock right in front of him. I gesture for anyone else at the table or in the general area to move away for a few seconds... look at my watch, nod to myself, and place the rock back in the container.
I then return to the stage, place the container back in my trunk, and continue the show as if nothing has happened.
If the heckler doesn't get the hint, then I pull a Geiger counter out of the trunk, walk over to him, run it over him... and the clear and quickened clicking that it emits can be heard by those in the audience.
I smile and walk back to the stage, turn to the heckler and say something about how I can wait.

I have very little experience in building things in this area. I build a lot of my own props, but they are mostly wood and paint... nothing that requires lights, sounds, or other things that you guys might think could help make this gag funnier.
I'm excited to attempt this project, and I think that it could be quite funny when properly executed.
I'm hoping that someone can point me in the direction I'd need to go for gathering the supplies I'd need, and perhaps some tips on making it look better and more believable. I understand that I may be expecting too much of myself as a first project, but I'm willing to give it my best.

I look forward to any help that people can provide.

Thanks.

Maybe a rock painted with glow in the dark/UV colors. Box for rock has UV lights inside and remain on. Battery powered tube style UV lights hidden on the floor.

Geiger counter "bent" to just make that cracking sound when a button is pressed.

Just some ideas. Need the right kind of box. With radioactive stickers, scientific and a bit scary looking.

I belive someone here has made the Kryptonite rocks that is used in Smallville. They pulsate and looks toxic , but i don't know how they did it.

Those kryptonite rocks could be perfect!
No idea how they did it though?
If I paint the rock with the glowing paint... will that show up clear enough once removed from the box? I know that most clubs don't have the best lighting, so it will be kinda dim in the room.. I just want to the rock to be visible to as many people as possible.

Thanks for the help already.

I'm not familiar with what you mean by a Geiger counter "bent" to make the sound.
I can get a geiger counter fairly cheap... $12-$25 on Ebay... so I'm fine with messing around with one to make it a prop I can use reliably.

I would cast a "rock" in clear resin, (perhaps tinted green), but during the casting process, insert a clear tube into the mold such that the final cast has a tubular opening in the center.

Then I'd use a"glow-stick" (that you snap to activate the chemical glow), and insert the glow stick into the tube of your clear "rock" (make sure of course that the tube in the cast is sized properly for the glow stick).

Glow sticks, I think, would create a desirable lighting effect, and they are cheap and disposable. And following this method, you don't really have to worry about batteries or wiring or what not.

Of course, you would have to experiment, because while it all sounds nice in text, we really don't know quite how effective it will be in practice. And doing this is not necessarily quick and simple. Clear casting resin is challenging to work with.

This thread would also be served well n the main Prop forum.

There is also info on creating your own glow stick fluid on instructables, you might want to have a batch of it whenever you use the gag for the most intense glowing available.
