Re: R2D2 & C3P0 Hieroglyph in Raiders -Update Post #19-

Here is the finished result. I'm off to an interview in Florida, so on Tuesday I'll be back to answer any questions.

Click the high res. I matched the bodies as closely as possible and took into account the shadows of the only reference picture we have.

Looking good GB, are you going to contour body shapes?

These clay tools would be excellent for shaping contours. Craft stores should have them in the clay aisle.

Also crinkled aluminum foil might give you the worn stone look.

I agree with you.... it is a great start, but it looks like a tracing. It now needs some contouring and depth put to the lines. But really accurate placement and a great start.

good start. go deeper with the lines though! :)

Re: R2D2 & C3P0 Hieroglyph in Raiders -FINISHED- Post 21

There is a LOT of shadowing in the reference picture, so it is very hard to see how deep to go. I've already molded it though, so I guess this is what I'm stuck with. Sorry you guys don't like it...

Oh, and it wasn't traced.

No.... it is not that no one likes it.... it is very nice.

Don't take anyone's criticism to heart, it is only constructive. No one means disrespect.

The shadowing on the reference is there, but it reinforces the depth of the lines. While yours looks like lines carved on the surface, the original looked like a sculpture. Don't think of this as lines scratched in the surface, think of it as if you were scultping the piece.

I hope that makes sense without sounding offensive?

Very cool. I never knew about this either!! Where does the glyph show up in Indy 4?

Paint it and give it a wash....it will look good.

He did a nice job.

Re: R2D2 & C3P0 Hieroglyph in Raiders -FINISHED- Post 21

looks good , like moviefreak said it's more of a sculpture than just a scratch relief.

Yes, he did do a nice job.

I hope our critique was not taken to heart. That is such a thin line to walk sometimes. It is hard to offer words of advice and not have it taken wrong. It is a very nice piece and I can see alot of time, talent and love went into making it.

(y)thumbsup

Don't worry, I do appreciate the feedback. It just came a little late after using nearly a gallon of silicone to mold this. :eek

I might offer a few of these to recoup some costs and have a little extra cash for my move that is coming up. I'll cast another one (the one pictured was given to my 9 year old cousin) and give it a little black washing to make it pop. :)

Re: R2D2 & C3P0 Hieroglyph in Raiders -FINISHED- Post 21

I dug out my jewelers files and started to carve deeper into the master. Since it is already baked the sculpting tools aren't really working. I'm almost done with 3PO and will post a picture tomorrow to get everyone's opinions.
