That's looking more like it...

Now we just need a metal radar eye to complete it and a new light set.

Hey, I just realized, are you Shredder on the astromech site?

lol, yeah that looks like it worked much better.
It still seems to me that you need to push your holo through further so that the front housing ring sticks out more and is flush with the hole on the outer dome.
Take a look here to see what I mean.

Lookin great though, congrats on thos aluminum hp's, they look awesome.
Can't wait to get my dome so my guy isn't headless. :)

yep, that's me.

I'm afraid to drill the hole any wider. I did that on the top, and now I've got to find another piece of metal to anchor the HP to through the dome. and drill a hole through the new metal as well.

Also, someone mentiond using a PVC pipe to house the PSI in. anyone happen to have a picture of their setup like that? I have an idea of how it would go through, but would like to see a referance shot first...

The latest mockup. The Bottom Ring is really a ***** to paint. Why I'm also thinking of doing to cover up that gap is paint the gap blue so it's not as noticeable. Ithink that's easier than cutting it.

I ordered some bondo to fix the cracks in the top tiles. Will be sanding down other tiles and repainting so they look a little smoother.

Next, I've got to buy a few more screws to secure the HPS with. I've got to cut out a circle from the inner dome that is wider than the hole I cut for the top HP. Cut a smaller circle inside of that, and attach it to the top of the dome so I can install the Top HP itself. I knew I was making that hole too wide.

Oh well, HP problem fixed. it may be one panel off to the right, but it works and I think looks much better this way.... I can always get another dome later and start from scratch :)

True, but the stickler in me is annoyed. I'm going to try and do another suggestion today, and get some flat PVC pipe to put it in the correct spot..

well, 4 hours of messing around with it and I just decided to keep it on the wrong panel. not worth the agrravation. although my inner dome is now looking like swiss cheeze :). Ahh well, if I ever get a second dome, I'll know what to do from the start and improve on the original. and knowing my perfectionism, I might do just that.

coming back from vacation monday, my first goal will be to bondo the tiles with cracks from paint, sand down all tiles, and repaint one coat of each. primer, purple, blue, enamel. let those sit for a full day. I'm then going to glue on top panels so those are in place.

After that, all I have to do is wait for the radar eye, and a new version of the audrino pro mini to arrive. this one has it's own built in regulator, so I CAN use the raw input and will have no need for a pololu regulator. hopefully this will solve the technical problem with the lights and I won't have to get a new set.

Then it's just a matter of waiting till april for my frame to arrive, then I can make a whole new set of mistakes working on the body :)

I've always wanted to build an R2 unit.

All the wiring scares me not to mention the cost! As I would have to go the aluminium way too as that's how I remember him......

Good work, I'll be watching with envy......:thumbsup

so far, the wiring I've done has been time consuming, but easy :). Seems the way I wired the switch might have over heated or messed up the lights. looks like I'm looking for a new set again. joy :).

also put in for a pair of outer legs, we'll see if that comes through!

Well, the one thing I've realized is it doesn't matter what material you're building with, the feet are about as expensive as the legs. Go figure.

All HP's properly installed. Rockler Bearing in place and even...amazingly.

All holes FINALLY dremeled down so no overhang is showing. If I can just paint that bottom rung properly, and get a few other panels fixed... All I'd have to do is get pipes for the PSI holes, and wait for the radar eye, and the head will be done!

Only progress for today. Bondo panels finally sanded and painted. didn't turn out that bad. gonna have to settle for half assed on the bottom ring paint job. it's not going to look as good as some others, but it works.

I'm going to hot glue the dome topper into place, the only thing left is to hope this new Pro micro chip solves the light problem. And wait for the Radar Eye, and the head will be done.

all the R2 Panels with new paint. They are as good as I can make them now. Could have probably went with a lighter blue. it's a tad dark.

tomorrow we'll see if the new chip fixes the lights. and if it does, just need the radar eye. and head will be done. can't do anything else until april with the body.

PSI pipes cut. Since the PSI plates I was given don't fit the holes, I may have to find away to trim those down. easier than cutting the metal hole. hope to have the new aurdino chip programed and hopeful that'll fix the lights later today.
